Some years ago a buddy (that passed away some years ago, so I can't ask him any more, lol) had a rotational bench vise, seemingly now called a multipurpose vise like this one -

The front jaws being able to rotate like that made tasks like grinding angles into tabs and tubing MUCH MUCH easier than the standard fixed jaw vises, and I loved working with that thing. His was an ancient USA made vise from the 50s or 60s, super heavy duty like the high end Wiltons, but of course I don't remember the brand any more.

I'm now in the market for a new vise, and I want to get one like this, but all I'm finding are the lower quality imported versions. Although the pictured Yost comes with decent reviews, I'd rather buy a better quality one first....if I could find one. I'm not necessarily against imported stuff (hell, both my mill and lathe came out of the south Pacific area, and have been working great for years), but I've broken enough Chinese vises now that I don't really want another one.

Does anything like this exist anymore? I've spent the better part of a year hoping to find one on the used market with no luck, and that Yost is still the best thing I can find new...

only the low end Wilton's. you know under $400.00. I think that Yost is imported, I was looking last night.

edit: Only 2 Wilton Bullet Vises seem to made here $700.00 and up, Not even the Tradesman models ugh

I have an old Yost like the above that is probably from the 70s. I only use it for some stuff that I care about because I think it'd be $800-900 to replace it. I got it at an auction. It was all rusty from sitting at the bottom of a galvanized bucket.

However, what I use in the garage is three Wilton 11106. They are Chineseum, but they're decent CCS for $90 on sale. Usually you can find them for $110. I haven't broken one yet, and I treat them like a disposable tool.

I have a yost off a M936A2 wrecker truck . It is a USA made unit . They must have changed . Its a dam HEAVY vise !
