what to do with a free ammo can when its 2 am, your at the shop and wide awake?

took a free ammo can...

then cut 3 inches of the bottom
532757_611_full.jpg

flipped it over, tack welded that back on upside down, and dolly and hammered the edges so less gaps to weld..
532757_612_full.jpg

then cut off the extra with my grinder with a cut off wheel
532757_613_full.jpg

welded her up..

532757_614_full.jpg

then sliced a piece from the cut off scrap
532757_615_full.jpg

made a change/cell phone tray
532757_616_full.jpg

then tack welded my cd player slever in place, mounted some support strap under it and slide in the cd player, please note not all cd players will work at angles. I have had this one in a previous truck like this, as well as a pioneer with great results.

scuffed it up with a scotch bright and some pummice, then sprayed some left over bmw paint on it, no clear was applyed.

some self tapp scews later she was installed, later I added a power a\outlet to the back side for passengers or camping needs.

also plan to put a crappy tape deck in the dash to fill up the hole and make would be theives think I dont actually have a cd player.

Way cool. I like innovativeness. :D

*EDIT*

And thanks for imbedding the pics instead of linking them, we cant see when they are linked thru CK5.

Really good idea. I think I have one of those exact ammo cans around. I wish you were using a better camera though, I was feeling like I didn't have my glasses on. :doah: The last pic is real clear though, might want to figure out what you're doing there. Looks like a pretty sweet console. I wish I weren't so lazy sometimes, I might spend a little time to make things nice like you do.

:haha:

my camera has a fucus adjustment on the out side, I keep it in my pocket, so when I take it out or put it in it often messes it up, its ruined some very nice kodak moments :(

as for the dash, I just want a dummy deck in there to ward of would be theives, I did think about guages but was lazy..and the dash parts can not come out with out some lube, or removing the cage first..

ii have been thinking a little, my mind is on a tab with masterlock, but at the same time, i am simply not worried, aside from when it is at my place, it sits it a secured lot.

I know it might sound crazy, but for 99 percent of the time I have never had a open truck like this messed with, seems when you paint them some nutty color and they stand out people mess with them less, the truck gets alot of attention, so it would be pretty easy to get noticed if your removing a stereo. also the truck is taller, and the latches on the tube doors will stump your average iddiot for a few seconds at least..

I did add a very sensitive alarm, and I sleep just a few feet away :)

Did you use a piano hinge on the back side to keep it from being a problem when you were at my house?

:D

no, i like how it works now, and I also added a switch for the stereo, since I have an ipod with all my music I dont listin to the radio much, so I just hit the switch and turn on the ipod...I dont even have to open the console :)

Manual focus huh? I wouldn't have expected that. I can see how that wouldn't be very compatible with pocket usage.

ill better exsplain it,

i got a camera with a digital zoom, and not a motor/optical zoom, this way if I shoot pics around dust or paint..it does not gum up, the front has a setting for close up or far like mountains. if you have it on mountains...your screwed:crazy: its a dial, so it turns as it is going in or out of my pocket.,,,i have had some very...very interesting pics screwed up as a result:mad:

I like the Idea cool looking and cheap. If you use a I Pod why not just hook up the tape deck and run one of the I Pod/Tape Deck adapter?
Do you run a FM transmitter or run it through the CD player?

I love my I Pod and don't know if I should do a cheap tape deck or cut the dash and run a CD player???????

i have an fm transmitter, it doubles up as an ipod charger and hase 4 station presets and a cradle built in, along with a flexable hard line that means it sits in place in thecig plug, rather than a cord and lying on the ground.

got it for 80 bucks or something like that at wally world..at 4 am :)

In Pioneer & Alpine you can buy a 'patch cord' that makes a non Shuffle iPod look like a really LARGE cd changer to the front end. Then you can control what's playing thru the front end of the stereo like you do have a changer. And it too keeps the ipod's battery charged.

I have 3 of those 30mm ammo cans. I am using one as my center console also ( just not nicely modified like yours).

Looks good, only thing I would add is a cup holder. The swinging boat style ones do good.
