I run straight 30wt in my Jeep(AMC 304 V8) year round. Its motor burns alot of oil though. The Jeep sees nothing but Valvoline SAE 30 motor oil. That is all my mechanic uses in his Ford F250 too. He said he tore down his 351 about 6 months ago to check the general state and condition of the motor. He said it was clean as a whistle. Just reassembled it and dropped it back in.
My K5 is getting 15W-40. It seems to be a good balance for the AZ weather. Not to cold during the winter so 5 or 10 weight isn't necessary, and the 15 will take some of the heat better in the summer. I used to run 20w-50 with no problems but with the 15W-40 I don't have to change oil types or brands all year now.
