Main knock, Piston slap, or Torque Converter?

That sure sounds like my Astro when the flexplate cracked. Would do the exact same thing, and sounded almost identical. Of course I have something up with my Safari now that sounds similiar, but it is more random so I am not 100% sure what is causing it.

i get this crazy knock somtimes at idle!!....i was thinking like oil pump or balancer...does it at start up if i don't let it race (leave choke open) a bit. so strange you posted that. does sound like a midget inside engine beating on tha walls..haha. comes and goes too. sounds kind of hollow. i'll listen to you vid when kiddos wake up

Yep, you need to get a stethescope and find where the noise is coming from. You can get them pretty cheap. Or even a wooden dowel rod placed against surface and held to your ear can help pinpoint it. Just make sure you don't stick anythnig in the fan or belt while it's running, and be careful.

Is it coming from down low (oil pan, tranny, exhaust, etc), or up high, like under the valve covers?

Dude, before you do this, buy her flowers, rub her feet, take out the trash, whatever, just MAKE SURE you are on her good side..........

Oh, and adjust the brakes...

pull it up against a wall......and park another vehicle right behind it........like HER car...:whistle:

Not for another couple weeks. Got a buddys car in the garage still and i dont want to move it all around my yard until i can just move it from where it is straight into the garage. The ground is just pure mushy mud right now and i would like to keep the grass mostly in tact.

That sure sounds like a cracked flexplate.

I agree.......I'd be surprised if it is something else.....pop the T/C cover off and get a flashlight......should be easy to see...

Should be able to check it out here soon. Finally got my buddies car out of the garage, now i need to clean/re organize all the crap that collected in there in the three months that it was in there...

Just as a final answer to this thread, it was loose converter bolts. Over the course of 10k miles or so, all three had backed themselves out about one full turn.

You are lucky, I had one where the bolts backed out so much they were hitting on the block:doah:

glad you found it.i was gonna say flexplate or torque converter bolts as well.engine sounded like it was running pretty good and with the intermittant sounds it was more centered in the drivetrain.it sounds like my flexplate when it was cracked.at least you dont have to pull the drivetrain to replace the plate.or torque converter.
