Just got 87 GMC shortbed with a 6 inch lift. Problem is with Maine laws, the whole setup will have to go. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this?
Maine states that ABS = no mods and that the original suspension cannot be "disconnected". I have no idea how to get around that.

If have to go back stock, what problems may I see going from the 6 inch lift?
:(

ABS... as in anti-lock brakes?

I don't think that ABS started popping up until the 90's

your ABS if you have it will still work as long as you have the VSS buffer adjusted. But in 87 i don't know if they even had the VSS in the trans yet

If you have ABS you may well be screwed. Maine doesn't care if you can adjust to make the ABS work, Not suppossed to change tire size at all with ABS.

Yeah, no ABS, just included that because of Maine laws.
The lift is the big issue. If anyone lives in Maine or knows what will "pass inspection" please educate me. The way these laws read is brutal. Why can't they just say yeah or no to a lift kit in the law? It's always gotta be so interpretive.

Put really small tires on when it gets inspected? P265/75's should effectively negate the lift ;)

Move??

Maybe make friends with someone in NH,and register it there instead?? ..

Well, my brother-in-law has a bare lot in NH. Wonder what you need to register it there?
