I've always wondered why I've seen alot of tractor trailers running Maine tags on their trailers, even though the tractor is tagged else where.
Did a little digging and found out you can get your out of state trailer tagged in Maine even if you don't live there.
To get my trailer tagged in Delaware, I have to pay $76 a year and have to run it down to the DAV to get a inspection. I just got a 5 year tag in Maine for $90. Another savings is if you buy a new trailer in your state and get it tagged up there, theres no tax owed.

Has anyone else tried this?

I've been using a place called STAAB agency in Maine for years to register trailers. Anything under 3,000 lbs doesn't require a title (at least last time I did it). Also as FOR MUD mentioned, no sales tax on new trailers and no state inspection is Nice:waytogo: Assuming you are diligent enough to take care of your trailer and not wait for a yearly inspection to fix all those busted lights:whistle:

I've never had an issue with the process or the plates.
