I have a 1994 gmc sierra 5.7L. Ok, first off I am loosing a qt of oil in about 150 miles. It seemed to get bad real fast. I was thinking it might be the rear seal, but I took off the flywheel cover, and it was as clean as new. No oil what so ever on the flywheel or torqconveter. I climbed into the engine bay and got a mirror and flashlight to look. I see a lot of fresh oil on the back of the motor and on top of the trany. It looks to be either the real intake seal or the oil pressure unit, if it is the unit, then it looks like it is the fitting that connects to the block. I assume it connect to the block. Please let me know for sure. can you leak that fast from an intake seal?

Yes, you can definitely leak oil from both spots when the rpms are up and oil pressure is high. Both fairly easy fixes. Just kind of a pain

Has anyone used the "Right Stuff" gasket stuff? I have a few guys that just clean the area real well and goop some of that on there to seal it. Iv'e replace an intake gasket on my blazer before, but I know it was a time consuming and I don't have a garage to do it in.

I here ya! I like to do stuff the right way, but was just wondering if their was a way to get me by a few weeks until I have more time to do it. Thanks for your input.

Dude
Permatix Right Stuff is the ****. You are probably loosing oil from the intake manifold. Also, check for plugs at the back of block. I had a leak back there too, it was just above the oil filter adapter.

I called the shop that I have used in the past, and they want $650-$700 to replace the intake gasket. WOW! I guess I have more time than money this time arround.

I'm betting it's the pressure sending unit or related. That's got to be a good size leak to lose that much oil in that time.

496truck, thats what i'm thinking. It's pretty dirty back there so I am going to degrease it and see if I can see anything. That would be an easy fix. From looking at it last night, it might be coming from the base of the tube that comes out of the block.

I just thought of something. My oil pressure guage has been bouncing around a bit for awhile now, could that be a sign?

Not the tube base but rather the intake manifold. The is no gasket there but rather you have to use RTV and its a leaky bastard when the RTV no longer seals.

Well, I degreased the engin last night and let it run for over 30 minutes. I looked and looked for an oil leak and found nothing. I even ramed up the rpm a little. I thought I would drive it around today and look at it tonight. I hope I can see something.

I'm thinking about getting the UV kit to add to the oil at autozone if I can't find the leak tonight.

uh, you should be able to see the leak after you have everything cleaned off, especially if it's as bad as you are describing.
