Can anyone tell me why the front axle is wider than the rear on my 90 K5?? It looks fine from the side but when you look at it from the rear, the rear tires are like 2 inches in from the fronts on each side! Weird??? I'm going to lift it soon (stock 31x10.5's now) and wondering if anyone has any suggestions to fix that?

it is like that to decrease turning radius. if you want to "fix" the way it looks you could get spacers for the rear or get different offset wheels for the rear.

It's more for higher speed handling characteristics, not really slow speed turning radius, but anyway.....

The rear axle is actually 3" total narrower, or 1.5" per side. You can buy 1.5" wheel spacers to even out the width. I don't have any issue with quality spacers and used them on my rig for several years with no issues. I bought them used off of Mr. CK5 (Steve Fox) himself back in the day when he went 8-lug, then I sold them to another board member when I went 8-lug.

So the wheel spacers are the way to go? Do they affect towing? Seems to me if you stick the wheel out 1.5 inches it would wear on the axle bearings??? My truck has the stock 10 bolt in the rear, just curious... Where do I get good ones?

There are wider axles that can be swapped in. I used a 14 bolt SF out of a 97 pickup. I wanted a little stronger axle and it also evened out the wheel track. It's not a bolt in though, some welding was required. As far as the spacers, I doubt that most Blazers are loaded heavy enough to affect the wheel bearings. Most problems I have heard of with spacers were due to them working loose. Maybe that was just failure to torque them tight enough, or or just not checking them after driving for a while.

I run 1.5 or 2 inch spacers "depending on my wheel/tire set up" on the truck in my avatar.. no issues with spacers and I guarantee you mine are tested!

I'm definitely gonna try the spacers, I supposed maybe some day I'll swap in a bigger axle but right now I drive it everyday and no off roading whatsoever... I mainly want it to look better. So where do I get them?? Thanks guys for the reply's, I'm fairly new to this and all the comments and suggestions are great!

iirc, a rear end out of a van is the same width as a 2nd gen frontend...thats what i plan on doing to ''square'' my wheels up...if i do it,...b/c when your front & rear track width are the same...making rear tires follow in the front tire tracks, while i agree it looks better. when your front & rear track width are different, your rear tires aren't following the front tires & they could possibly have better traction b/c they are following a different line thru the mud/rocks/etc.

I got mine from "Performance wheel and tire" in Denver

I purchased two different sets (each of my K5's) from Fred......he's a real character :D
The quality was great and the turn around time was fast. I highly recommend him.
