With a 205 I have in my yard from a truck i had is there way to make it divorced to make it easy to convert my longbed 68 to a 4x4. Just a thought because i have a set of rear springs from an old 4x4 truck to put in the front and put the axle below the trailing arms for mor clearance and to lift the rear. Just happen to be thinking about what could be done easy enough.

why not swap in a later model trans and T-case that are already married. GM stuff is too easy to swap to do stuff like that, however IHC divorced 205's are the same drop as a GM front axle. or could go the ford route and get the divorced 205 and matching front axle as long as you are converting the truck to 4x4, however that might require a more intenseive suspension build.

dodge and ihc ran pass side divorced 205.

seen the trailing arm flip for lift in the rear. also thay used a ford dana 44 front and swaped in ford tcase and trailing arms on the axle to custom bracket on the frame.

then got lift springs for the front and set them in the 2wd buckets for gm. basicly made a ford suspension on the gm frame. had 38" tires and was real sweet lookin.

bet it road real nice with the 4 coils.

Last week I posted an idea I had while I was staring at my spare NP208 T-case,I thought it might be possible to use the tail shaft housing off a tranny that the case was designed for along with a section if the tail shaft on the transfer case adapter to allow a slip yoke to be used on it ,so you could use a short driveshaft to mate it to the tranny of your choice..

One poster who responded said it would probably work, but you'd have to modify the tail shaft housing some,so it wouild mate up with the adapter "flush",as it has a ring protruding around it where it would mate toi the tranny housing it was on originally..

I have a 68 c10 and a 79 bronco frame. I do have the the np435 out of the bronco that the 205 is married too. but how hard would it be to find a bell housing to bolt up that 435 to my 350. but then i have to find the pedals and such. If i get a divorced t-case then i can keep my 350/400 setup in my 68 that runs great. I read the post on what might be done to the 208 and thought about a slip yoke on the front shaft where it mates the tranny with a couple set screws and a small shaft like they do on old ford f250s.

You could use a Rockwell T-case from the same vintage Chevy 4x4 as yours,I think they were the T-223 model,GM used them on some trucks till 1969,and if your lucky enough to find one the frame brackets will likely be a bolt in swap to your frame!.....that's what my wagon in my avatar had in it,I liked the fact it was divorced,so you could swap in any tranny ,manual or automatic, simply by using the correct driveshaft/u-joint configuration between the t-case and trans..the Rockwells are a bit noisy due to having straighter cut gears, but its not that big a deal..everyone thought I had a blower on my wagon when they heard it coming,it sounded like a Pete Jackson gear drive, only not as loud!..
