ok i have a 83 blazer with the 6.2 diesel and a 700r4 auto tranny

i am looking at buying a 86 chevy one ton 4x4 with a small block350 sm465 4spd manual trans and np205 tcase. Has dana 44 front, 14 bolt semi float rear with 4.88 gears, and open differentials.

i want to build my blazer useing the original 6.2 motor. and taking the the trans, tcase, and axels from the one ton. Is this going to be possible or am i in for a world of hurt. i figure i can use the pedal assembly and clutch master cylinders off the one ton as well.

what do you guys think. all info will be greatly appreciated

ooooh....that type of hybrid.

Should be pretty easy to do. All will work with a little modification and maybe some adapters.

Other smarter ppl will chime in breifly...

Why does it have a 14 semi floater and a dana 44? did the PO swap them out for the real one tons (14 full floater and dana 60) or is it actually a 3/4 ton?

The 4 speed bolts right up to the diesel. You do, however, need the proper balanced flywheel for it and you'll need to put a pilot bushing into the crank. A gasoline engine's clutch disk / pressure plate bolt onto the diesel flywheel no problem :)

i will have to ask about the 60s.

i have found another deal on a jimmy that has a 350 and auto trans that is all the info i got. It is only 800 bucks and i could just swap the engine and tranny out for my diesl and not ever worry about smog.

i am a pretty good wrench but i am not that great at in depth customizing.

keep the info coming i want to get started on this this weekend.

thanks guys.

well that is good. is the proper flywheel something i can get at a parts store. also what is this pilot busing and where does it go on the crank? other than that you are saying i can bolt the tranny and tcase right on?

i am also thinking about this 350 swap. i am guessing that would be easy as pie and small block parts are a dime a dozen.

but i would like to have a man trans diesel with the bigger axels i think that would be the stronges combination.

yeah I am kind of in the same boat.
my truck>85 m1008 cucv. civvy gasser-a/c 2wd cab
keeping the diesel and a/c,
converting the th400 to a built 700r4,
keeping the np208(for now),
installing electric fans/fuel pump(s)/aux lighting,
converting to power windows/locks/keyless entry,
installing dual tank setup using burb rear tank as 2nd.

and I have also given up on finding an intact wiring harness even remotely close to this combo for a decent price, so...I am going with an ezwiring 21 circuit wiring harness with the mini fuse box.

yes you should be able to get the flywheel at most parts stores.
the pilot bushing goes between the crank and flywheel on the back of the engine.
then the tranny should bolt right up after those are taken care of.
I would still go with the diesel if I were in your shoes, gas prices are getting crazy, and those diesel engines are pretty light on fuel for a larger truck. Yeah if you have the money, I would go with an nv4500 since it has a nice od gear for highway cruising. They usually run $2500 or so after its all said and done.

The pilot bushing is what the input shaft of the transmission uses as a bearing of sorts. It slips in there, which aligns the clutch disk in the center of the transmission etc. It is pressed into a recess that is machined into your crankshaft. All 6.2L cranks have that machining done, and installing them is a very simple job with a block of wood and a hammer to pound it in.

As mentioned above as well, the flywheel can be found at any parts house no problem. Just make sure that you get one for the correct rear main seal that your engine uses. I am not sure of the exact date, but when they changed to the single piece rear main, the flywheel bolt pattern changed.

thanks guys. i was looking to just get back on the road asap. but after my research i think i really want the diesel with the nv4500 what is the best tcase to bolt up to this set up so far. eventually i want to get dana 60s or a larger axel. this is going to be a trail truck so i dont need gobs of hp or tire spin just needs to get over some gnarly rocks and some river crossings...

thanks for all your help. if someone can get me a complete shopping list for this mod that would be great. i am kind of new to the mix and matching parts thing. i usually just replace stock with stock.

will i be needing one of those to bolt up the nv4500 to my 6.2 motor? i was told that they would bolt together. needs a couple things but the mounting was not an area of concern

yeah it will bolt up, but you will need a specific bellhousing and clutch slave cylinder sold by advance adapters, not sure about everything else, but I think the flywheel and clutch setup from a 6.5 would work.

what about this set up i found

Compound low SM465 4 speed and NP205 transfer case from Chevrolet truck. Worked good when removed. Gear oil is clean, uncontaminated and smells delightful! Great for crawler truck/Jeep/Landcruiser project

i found this add and the combo is only a couple hundred bucks i will not be competing with this truck so i dont need the best of everything just want it to not break on the trail.
