Making Shift Smooth

This is a natural offshoot to my recent threads about manual hubs and NP203 linkage

Anybody here with experience with a NP203 and how I can make it shift smoother? I don't want to have to push so hard that I pop the linkage out again.

Did you remove an clean the entire shifter?

They just kind of suck.

There are some bushings in the shifter. First step is to take apart the shifter. Replace or repair broken bits. Then adjustment. I know you can get these to shift well. I have done it to a couple. Its a pain but possible
