So, I picked up an M1009. It has both of the antenna brackets on the sides.

Look to be complete, but the antenna is not there. The base is there, but that is all.

Can I make use of any of it... or am I better off using just the brackets, mounting location and mounting a couple long whips to them?

Another thought.. maybe use one of them for a CB and the other for the radio antenna?

Still looking at doing this.

I like the idea of using one side for a FM radio antenna and the other side for a CB antenna.

Will a CB antenna work for a FM radio antenna?

Yes you just have to find the right adapters. I run my k5 and one of my plow trucks useing cb antenna for both duties.
