Ok, so my beloved LTX 18v Makita set just had a battery issue.

They haven't really been used that hard at all. I have 2 sets, one pair of large and 1 pair of small batteries.

One of the large batteries just decided to stop charging and give me a an error.

Any hope fixing it, or is it a goner? Where are you guys getting replacements? Any luck with rebuilders, or rebuilt ones from interstate?

Thanks!

Friend of mine bought the rebuilt batteries on ebay, they've been great for the last year or so. He's in the building trades so they get used.

Pretty bummed mine died already. No idea what would have caused it, maybe a drop?

They get used frequently, but not for long. They only get charged every couple of weeks.

Looks like i can get 2 new makita large batteries off ebay for $100. Seems to be the best deal.

and your sure the charger is good right? He had a charger take a crap too and IIRC that failed before the batteries did.

Yep, charger works on the rest of my batteries.

Surprised that this one died.

Had a battery rebuilt at Batteries plus. Cost $49.

That batter is still going and my spare has since cashed in. Gona get that one rebuilt yet.

These are Rockwell batteries by the way.

I think my charger took a dump. I can charge my batteries on my car battery charger, not quite to 18V.

The charger is a blinking green light all the time.

Any thoughts ?

Isn't' that the idle "nothing is connected" state?

Not sure I put a battery on it and it goes red-green blinking

I thought the steady green meant it was ready.

red/green blink means the battery is fubar'd, or at least not taking a charge properly.. I had one that did it more and more consistently till it was f*cked.. when they first start cr@pping out, sometimes if you reload it, it'll take a steady green...

Haha, isnt' the light guide right on it?

mine looks like this:

Red/green means broken battery. Exactly what i'm getting.

The couple of replacements on Amazon had horrible reviews.

I ended up ordering a new makita replacement from ebay for $50. Considering they are almost $100 at homo depot, i think i did pretty good.

that's a good price.. i'll occasionally watch, and new/in the package consistently go for 65 to 75...

I have 1 good battery, that was used.. the other 2 used I had died... i'll only buy new in the package makitas, heard may too much sh*t about the china-knockoffs, etc.. I really need to buy a couple, maybe in the spring..

but it keeps coming up behind getting truck parts.. :doah:  :haha:

My buddy was buying nothing but Makita because home depot has a lifetime guarantee on the batteries. I even seen it posted in the store a few times about lifetime battery warranty so you might check that out first.

That's good to know. Do you know if they do the same for Milwaukee? I have two dead red lithiums I'd like to replace.

I definitely bought them at a home depot.

I will check into it!

thanks scott!
