I put my fiberglass top back on the K5 on Tuesday and man does it drive like a pig after I'm all used to driving topless since April. Since the top weighs 400+ pounds it's just like having a morbidly obese person riding with you. :rotfl:

The only reason I put it on was to go to a family cookout on July 4 and there was a 70% chance of rain and I just had to show it to some of my family members who hadn't seen it in person yet. It never did rain  .

It's already back off again.

full top i take it? i know my stock top doesn't weigh half that...i was able to remove it by myself (wasn't pretty at all...but i did it).

I took the top off my 74 by myself, busted my *ss, and then cut the top in half and threw it in a dumpster. I figured I would just by a soft top. Too bad STC went out of business.

i always like driving with the top off. when i had the automatic i could always get a better second with it off. but now i have no worries cause i have a 4-speed and i can get a mean third. i love it. maybe i should take it easy though

i always love topless. theres definately a noticeable difference with mine as well. ive got the sliding windows in mine and crap that adds alot of weight compared to the single window.

There is a noticeable difference in mine as well. Right now, I`m running around topless, no rear seat, and a pickup gate. Them tires like to spin:D , even with that worn out posi. Dirt lots are fun:D

Does anyone have an actual weight of a hard top? :dunno: I'v heard weights from 400lbs. to 150lbs., they can't be that inconsistent. How much weight difference between the fixed and the sliding side glass?

Also depends on if you mean full-top or half.

The halftops are more than 150, I would say... but the fulltops are freaking HEAVY!

She always looks better with the top off.:haha:
Sheesh, it took 12 posts to hit on that.:haha:

here's my version: things always move faster once she's topless.

that had to be said.

mine just has the half-top, but it still makes a noticeable difference.

This is why I'm going to keep my '72 Blazer in Jeep-fashion: no interior except waterproof/resistant seatcovers, etc.

Definitely. Super-heavy.

maybe some gears, a healthier motor and cut some of the body away and it will be real quick. then you also could bring it wheeling. :D I took the bed, bedliner, rollbar, doors and lots of spare parts and tools out of mine and its really quick now. I probably dropped 1000 lbs total.

I remember when we went to BB '03. Showed up and unpacked...then removed the top, doors and tailgate. Of course there was also the 400+ lbs of stuff we brought along that got removed. My truck felt one hell of a lot more responsive and nimble, handled better etc etc.

my Blazer always gets slower at the end of summer. the time the top goes back on. i miss summer the minute i have to put it on. means i'm in for another cold winter unless my heater decides to work
