Manifold Warped???(Fixed) Now won't idle

Ummm...

Isn't it true that if chemicals get into a backpressure type EGR valve, it will ruin it.

The machine shop cleaned up the manifold in the shop and I'm pretty sure they use chemicals when cleaning engine parts....I think....:doah:

If you would like me to lend a hand, just let me know. I'm in Niceville just about every day...

:saweet: Alright, I will let you know, I just ordered an EGR valve, because I took it off last night to inspect it and put some brake cleaner in the port to see of the pintle was leaking and it all leaked down into the diaphragm, so I imagine its shot

Has the block ever been decked, or the heads resurfaced many times? If so you may have an alignment issue and need to surface the intake manifold to fit correctly.

X2

The block probably was, its a Jasper motor

You may have your answer right here.....

as the heads / deck surfaces are cut,,the V angle in the intake valley is going to change. Too much cut = intake surface alignment problem.

Scrape off all the gasket material,,drop the intake on the heads with no gaskets,,,check the gap at the top of the intake and the bottom along the intake port. It should be the same...also check to see that the manifold is not bottoming out on the front and back of the block before it compresses the intake gaskets.

But if that was the problem why did it go for a year without any problems, and before the edelbrock was put on it still had the stock manifold on there?

Alright...Alright

Don't laugh too much, :haha: but for as many times as I have taken a carb on and off, especially on this truck, somehow I managed to put the carb gaskets on backwards,:doah: thus creating a very big vacuum leak at the base of the carb.

Found it by spraying carb cleaner around the manifold and carb.
Well actually Smitty found it.
BTW the manifold was sealed all the around, no vacuum leaks on it anywhere....or coolant :D

So flipped the gaskets around and she runs B-E-A-utiful.

Still can't believe I managed to do this... :D :doah::haha:

Thanks for all the help, I really really appreciate it,

And thanks again Smitty:waytogo::waytogo:
