manny, we're gonna need pics of a 4hi burnout, mmkay?, sounds and looks sweet, cant wait to see it together

The kingpins aren't too bad to do. It is a bit of labor since you need to pull the hub and rotors off, but you only need to replace the tapered cone on top if it looks scored or pitted. Most are fine since steel is slightly harder than nylon. Mine took me about 3 hours per side and that was in the truck.

you posted beofre that you already have all the stuff to rebuild the knuckles, why not jsut do it your self its not that bad to strip down the outers

Hey Jimmy,

You're right, I did post that. I do have the rebuild kits. The issue is concerning the top end cap. I'm at a loss on how to replace it and torque it down to 500-600 ft/lbs. torque. I don't have a torque wrench that big and have no access to an impact wrench. That's the hold up. Any clue as what to do?

Manny

The kingpin itself is torqued to 600 ft-lbs not the top cap. The top cap is only torqued to aboot 90 ft-lbs. To get the knuckle centered on the king pin put a floor jack underneath the hub to hold the weight of the assembly up and the nylon bushing will push right back down on top of the kingpin like it is supposed to. What happened in you video is the bushing just became unseated from the weight of the hub leveraging down. The smack you gave it with your hand finally broke the suction of the grease on it.

Basically you have the first ocillation of death wobble but in a really really slow rate:haha:

I would not replace the kingpins themselves unless they are scored or pitted.

Good god, i just spent 3+ hours reading this thread to its intirety:doah:

But i must say it was a good read!

Manny, first i must say thank you for your service! Thank you to you and your brothers!

With that said, your build im sure is what everyone wishes they could do or have planned. I know youve hit many things ive wanted. And i feel sick looking at the 7 grand put into my blazer. But once its done, your proud and happy.

Your engine, WOW, amazing. I want a 383 like a kid wants candy. Was the 5grand total including pulling of old and install of new engine?

What is the projected date for this to be ready for some wheelin?

That looks like the same that flew out of the bronco on Trucks!

Back that puppy up with some plates under the bed if you want it to stay put.

Okay,

Back to business. I had a lot to do today, but I didn't want any time to slip away, so I decided to build my spare tire carrier, to prepare it for the upcoming installation next weekend. I should have my rig back for New Years Day! Wahoo! Wrench time finally!

I looked for a real good spare tire carrier for the truck for quite a while. I came across RJR Products 201 Spare Tire Carrier and it fit the bill perfectly. It has no problem handling my 39.5 Swampers. It'll actually holds up to a 44! It's removeable, and the mount and tire can be locked for theft prevention. Perfect! It is made of steel, powdercoated and was real easy to build. It uses carriage bolts to mount to the bed of the truck and allen head screws for the main body assembly. It took me 1 hour of relaxed building. Tools were simple wrenches, sockets and allen keys.

Here are some pics:

All the parts (minus the head foot. They forgot to package it. It's on it's way)

I am very pleased with this product. I can't wait to see it installed in the bed of my truck holding down a full size spare. It's gonna make the rig look boss!

That's all right now.

Merry Christmas!

Manny

Is there a link to that?

What are the dimentions?

Clicky Clicky

It will fit into the back of a Jeep, so I know it'll fit your stepside. It would look awesome!
I'll get the dimensions for you asap. I have duty tomorrow for 24 hours so it may be a day or two.

Manny

Hey thanks! :wink1:

Think it would look pretty cool in my bed between the roll bar.

I was thinking of having a custom roll bar made up from pollished stainless and incorporating a spare tire carrier with it. I was thinking to basially have the bar hug the sides of the bed tighter and have it be all 1 piece with the foward bar housing the spare standing upright to maximize bed space with cross bars and a center hub to bolt the spare to. Then also strategically place tabs on the roll bar to make for a good cargo tie down points. And ofcoarse tabs on the top for my KCdaylighters in the garage. :wink1:
That would be pretty flippin sweet! :p:
