Or even better yet, I'll go through the bed floor, and tie it into the frame. And thus combining form and function! :saweet:

Thanks Manny ;)

looks like it will fit just fine, but over the holiday I talked to my cousin who works at a sheet metal/machine shop and he can build me a new stainless roll bar with an incorperated spare tire mount.

  • Bendix Brake Caliper P/N: 2238452-R
  • Replacement Retaining Key and Bolt for Calipers
Thanks a whole bunch guys! I enjoyed tearing this axle down thus far and writing this post. I hope it will help you as much as it has me.

Happy New Year!

Manny

I got loaded calipers through my work. A GM dealership. they come with pads and all the keys and bolts. it was cheap too. I think I spent $36 per side after core.

What was the eBay username/seller who sold the D60 to you?

Not trying to bash him or anything but rather like to know so others and myself can watch out for him and not end up in the same position like you didi.

I got the hardware kit from Checker it had the key and the hex bolt. They called it a hardware kit. I am going to my favorite parts store in the morning if you don't have the part numbers by then I will look them up. BTW my freind had a Dodge version of the 60 and our calipers are exactly the same.

I couldn't get a new vent tube for mine either. I took a barbed (plastic) vacume fitting put some sealant (very little) around the barbed area and installed it. It was a biatch getting it in there but once I did it wasn't comming out. Has been like that for a couple years now with no problems and has been in 3-4 foot of water with no leakage.

Sounds like you need a torx bit for the hub. 6 point kinda star looking thing.

Did I do that bad a job, or are you referring to the seller of this fine outstanding piece of automotive technology?

I'm going to assume he is referring to the seller. Claiming that axle is in excellent shape is complete

Manny,

You need to take a deep breath and relax..... :usaflag:

Working with used parts is a hassle most of the time. They are dirty, smelly and odds are that the person you are buying them from did NOT maintain things the way WE would have. This is clearly the case with your D60.

Honestly, you overpaid slightly for the axle (maybe $1000 would have been better) but in reality you are buying a "core" at that price....not a complete, perfect, slap-it-under-the-truck-and-go item.

When I bought my D60 (for around $900), I had to buy LOTS of new parts.....the spindles were chewed up, the calipers had been ground down for 15" wheels, the ujoints were dry and crusty, and the hubs were not the WARN Premiums I wanted. I also swapped the outer shafts for 35-spline units, replaced the kingpins and all bearings, etc.

It's just part of the D60 experience.... there is a reason why people who have moved to the "1-Ton Club" feel like it's a huge accomplishment....because it really is! By the time you're done buying parts for that axle (including x-over and hydro) it would not surprise me if your receipts totalled something like $3500. The costs are substantial, even for a DIY rebuild. The main benefit is that you are now becoming intimately familiar with what's inside there, so when it's time to service it (and with all the MUD you will be playing in.....you will need to get int there pretty regularly for cleaning, etc) you will know what you are doing.

......sometimes I think that a heroin addiction would be more cost-effective than this hobby.

looking good. did you buy the allen wrench or have someone make it? I'm geting inspired to rebuild mine and a source on that tool would be nice.

I remember when i had a 5/8 ton (see below :D ) but your sig says you have a 7/8 ton. I'm assuming your not a smart aZZ like me, so what makes your setup a 7/8 ton?

Manny, go to any parts store and get the seals and bearings for the spindles as they all have them. Part number is SBK3. This will cover the D60's. 1/2 and 3/4 tons use SBK1.

The slingers can be had at any parts store, too. Don't remember the part number for those but you can get them in the SBK kits. Just tell the guy and he should be able to get the whole thing for you.

BTW, the lockout hubs, as you posted above stating it as "The OEM Spicer lockout removed:" are Warns, not Spicers. I have bought a few of these Warns and removed several from trucks before and they are Warns. Spicers don't look anything like these.

FWIW, why not convert the outer axle shafts to the 35 spline units instead of reusing your stockers? You may as well upgrade to these shafts while its all torn apart. Just food for thought.
