Why didn't Edelbrock say anything?

caveat emptor. they make a product that fits your engine. it's your job to make sure it fits the rest. Remember you are doing non-stock things so not everything is going to fit everytime.

as for swapping caps on a u-joint. isn't a cap a cap as long as they are from the same manufacturer? what would be different? there is no way the caps are made individually for each joint. that kind of stuff is mass produced and slammed together by cheap labor.

I'm cheap enough that I would go looking for one of the joints I took out to steal the dust cap off of. It helps that I throw all my old u-joints, balljoints, and anything metal in a bucket for scrap. $6 a bucketful.:D

Do you have to replace the entire cap? I was under the impression that you just needed to replace the dust seal... there would be no problem at all changing out the broken dust seal. On the other hand, i agree with gmc4cw if you need to replace the whole cap too. I don't think I would use a used cap from another joint though. That would have a set wear pattern from the joint it was in. Just my $.02....great buildup so far.

you actually sold me on them valve covers...then they like your saying
interfered with the a/c...lol Sucks dont it? i ended up goin with the same covers just eh short versions.

So these joints have a seal integral to the cap? I have only used the Bruteforce (Neapco not spicer) joints for the D44, they have a separate seal attached to the cap.

I say paint the guard Hammertone Grey and the diff cover under it Metallic Cobalt Blue. It'll offer some nice contrast to the Semi-Gloss Black axle, and tie in the knuckles and axle shafts.

I am pretty sure you need to buy a new joint, just replace the broken part and spare the rest. Coat it lightly in grease and bag it up for a future trail repair. :)

Manny,
PM me some measurements of your compressor or a pic. The compressor off my 88 K5 is pretty short and I don't recall it hovering over the valve covers before I started my engine swap. If it works out, we could work a trade. I think I'm going to need the long version compressor for my big block bracketry I have. Mine blew cold before the swap.

I like the idea of painting the cover the Metallic Cobalt Blue as well, will look pretty trick...

I wouldn't reuse a cap either. but a dust shield, sure.

Manny how dare you use furd parts. must have been your chevy axles shafts rejecting them that split the dust shield. how did you tear it anyways? and is it all the way through to where it does not stay on the cap?

Take it easy on yourself dude! I'm surprised in the excitement of ordering all those parts all you did was goof on the valve covers. Chalk it up to experience, put the covers up for sale here in the classifieds to recoup some dough and order ones that will fit.

Worst comes to worst you can convert your Vbelt drive to Serpentine drive. You'll end up changing the Compressor for an R-4 style and it swaps sides with the alternator. New lines would have to be made up, but the R-4 doesn't hang over the cover at all. You would also have to get a reverse rotation Water pump/fan and clutch in addtion to a thermostat housing off of a 93-95 truck and an upper hose from a 89-91.

I'm not saying it's a cheap conversion, but it's an option if you have to run tall valve covers for clearance to Roller Rockers. Here's a shot of mine:

I'm not running a/c so I need a delete pulley. GM sells what I have out of there performance parts catalog, but all the parts can be found at the local boneyard too and cleaned up. You won't throw the belt off at high RPM like you could with a v-belt setup too.

getting a bracket made is easy. take lots of pics(like that won't happen:D ) and some measurements and someone here will make it for you. If nobody closer can then I will make so that I can have my name on your billboard with everyone else. But if Kert can flip the bird in a shackle flip then an AC bracket is nothing.

I have A/C on my blazer so I have some reference points to work with.

Muddytazz can make brackets from pictures shoot him a PM. Hes got some stuff going on so not sure if he has the time but it doesn't hurt to ask:D.
