You're in my prayers. Keep positive and try not to worry to much. I know the man upstairs has an ultimate plan for you. It's just hard for us to see the happy ending sometimes when you're caught up in the middle of it all. It's kind of like working on your truck, when you start getting frustrated with the challenges it's hard to see the reward of a sweet rig at the end, but if you just keep on enduring you'll see the fruits of your labors. Thanks for sharing your build up and letting us all get to know you. I've learned a ton of stuff I'll be using, and been uplifted by your positive attitude. I'm not much of a mudder, but I can't wait to see your truck burried up past the rockers. :waytogo:

Hey Soldier, you'd better stop with that pessimism crap! No, but seriously, a friend of mine had a tumor found in his head(right rear area) during Warrant school. He was removed from school, had the tumor removed, went through chemo for a bit and went back to finish school. He has subsequently gone back for another operation to remove some that grew back due to the chemo having the opposite effect on the tumor it should have had. He is in the Apache maintenance technician course right now. Not the end of a carreer, just another challenge to overcome and make you stronger.

So, you have 5 amps out of each battery when they are installed, and everything in the truck is shut off? Thats kind of alot if everything was shut off. Were your doors open? Or a underhood light on? Just curious...

Well, if it is staying charged, its probably ok for now, but I would still try to locate that drain. Think of it this way, the reserve in a yellow top is around 100 amp-hours. You have 5 amps flowing out of each battery, and they are in parallel, so after 20 hours or so, you should have dead batteries, or at least a noticeably drained ones. You sure that wasn't 5 mA?

edit: if you have only 5 mA of drain, that's OK.

Oh, you took amp readings post to post? Don't do that.... If that's what you did, I am surprised you only got 5 A. Most meters are autoranging for the most part, sometimes there is a mA when you are reading milliamps instead of amps. For a current reading, you disconnect one cable and connect the meter inbetween the cable and the one battery post.

With the battery installed...

Hey, thats no problem, that's what we are here for (I am senior studying Electrical Engineering, even though I'm 31....I got a late start after serving in the Navy for 9 years) Good luck with your checks.

The truck's looking great. I wish the outside of my truck looked half as good as yours. Mine has a great engine and a so-so body.

so your going to get the painless wireing harness?

thats what im gonna be doing soon to my truck, theres a rats nest of fire hazzard of wireing in it now.

as soon as i get enough $$ (being in h.s., i have limited funds) ill be getting the harness. i just got the steering box brace and weld in kit (expect a write up) from a forum member.
hopefully ill be wheeling soon

keep up the good work manny, you have motivated me to finish up my rig

crossover puts a lot of stress on the frame. if it's possible I would recommend using the weld on patch. I know it will be a pain but you might need to install everything, drive to a weld shop and take the steering box back off. or tow it to a weld shop now.

The brace is a good peice to have but a little extra effort now might save you from a lot of work later. search frame crack and you will see how bad it can get. best case scenario is you catch the crack before it gets bad. which I think YOU would. worst case scenario is someone dies.

Manny if you want to make sure your wheels are as straight as can be then use a tape measure on the front to measure the distance between the two tires then from the rear...

Also who won the give away?

looks good! Do you really need to take it to an alignment shop just to dial in the tie rod/drag link? Its not liek they are setting camber or anything. Most guys with SFA's just do it with a tape measure. Someone will chime in with a spec, but i think you want the front distance from rim to rim 1/8-1/4 less than rear....and you're good!

To add to the alignment.
With the steering wheel straight.
You can take a string or straight object long enough to go from the back of the rear tire to the front of the front tire.
On the passenger side have Nick hold the string on the inside back of the rear tire.
Now you take the string to the inside of the front tire and pull the string tight.
From now to the end the string needs to be held tight.
Have Nick watch the string near the front of the rear tire (while holding the string on the rear of the tire) while you start moving the string towards the inside of the front tire slowly.
Nick will tell you when the string JUST touches the front of the rear tire.
MAKE SURE THE STRING IS JUST TOUCHING THE FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE.
Now measure from the string to the front and rear of the front tire.
Find out how much toe in your truck should have with stock tires then figure out how much it should have with your tires.
Larger diameter means more toe, so the angle is the same.
I can help with that if you need it.
Now set the right tires toe to half of this measurement using the drag links adjustment.
Now drop the string you are done with it.
Then measure between the front tires like Chevy305 said, but set the toe to the spec you figured for your tire, adjusting the tie rod.

If you have any questions PM me.
Mike

Yeah, it seemed like it took me about an hour to type it using three fingers.

It's always cool to win something. I would like you to keep them. I got excited when I saw my name, thats enough for me. Keep them in your glovebox. thats where my current set is in both my trucks.

never thought you would win your own drawing did ya?

Every time you look through them at some sweet K5 think of GMC4CW, and wish you had one instead of that rusty ole'beater you have!!!:D :D :D Just josh'n Manny:wink1:

Manny,
You do know that you don't have to buy us things, don't you. The good people in here will like you even if you don't give away things. I say keep your money and buy more truck parts.
How many people did I just make dislike me? We'll have to see.
I appreciate your kindness but in my mind the drawings are not needed.

Mike
