Manny's D60: I need OBJECTIVE advice on how to deal with this

according to my research, BOYCE will build a complete Dana 60 GM front axle, with detroit and 4.56 or lower (numerticly higher) gears for 3700.00. Just food for thought....
Now I admitt I have not read all of the posts on this thread, just your opening one, but from what I can tell, you are 3000.00 into a build of this so called "built" axle, and have 1000 to 1200 or so to go.
I would try to return the axle you have for a full refund, if possable, and go to Boyce or someone like them. If a return is not possable, give this seller a poor rating, and STATE why the poor rating, and finish the build up of the axle you have and chalk it up to life lesson learned.:eek1:

Hey Guys,

With all my heart I want to thank you for the opinions. You gave me exactly what I wanted. No BS. Looking at where I stand now, hindsight is 20/20. I've learned a valuable lesson. Do I think the description of this axle was stretched a little bit. Yeah, I do. But I'm not in the man's heart and I won't judge what he may or may not have been thinking.

I believe, looking over everything everyone has said, that the right course of action is for me to:
  1. Continue the rebuild and chalk it up as a learning experience. Too much invested and too many parts gotten to stop. Shipping this thing back would be too time consuming and a
    money.gif
loss. I can't reinstall the old gears and carrier because I am presently selling them on e-Bay with bids on them.
  2. Contact the seller, show him the pics, and try to get refunded for the calipers and all the bearings, seals and races. I don't know if he knew the KP's were bad, but a rebuild after 25 years of service/laying around is obviously needed so that's a given
    money.gif
loss, but a great lesson learned! He might do the right thing.
  3. booboo.gif
I need a change of attitude!

Everyone here at CK5 has been so supportive of me. I need to learn to lean more on y'all's experiences and SLOW down and not be in so much of a hurry! This truck will get finished. I just need to let it happen, instead of trying to force it. It's just be so long waiting for this dream, I don't want to lose it. But then, that's where my faith in G-d needs to kick in. He's blessed, and won't disappoint!
Would I do it the same way all over again?

Yeah, I would try to find an axle, but be more patient. If I couldn't and I knew I was going to do an all out rebuild, no knowing what it cost, I'd fork the

and go Currie or Boyce.

Thanks again for everything.

Manny, its ok to spell God.

If you're not ashamed of Him and don't care what others think, you have every right to spell His name in full. I could care less of others who think low of Him. I just don't pay attention to them.

God is good. God is great!

"GOD is good, GOD is great! GOD is good all the time!"

I'm not ashamed to say HIS name! His name is HOLY. So that's why I don't say spell it totally! It's out of reverance, not shame!

Jesus is my Lord and Savior! No denying HIM. And like you, if others don't like it, "Too bad, too sad, they'll just have to get over it!"

Happy New Year and GOD Bless!

Hey, I was just wondering when you determined it was that bad of shape? It looks very nasty compared to the ebay pics. seems like the guy that put in the gears might've said something about it needing everything, since he had to have the axles out to set up the gears. what a bummer. i've been real lucky on my d60's. both were very, very cheap, and still in very good condition.

Ron did tell me about the calipers and we talked about about the axle a little bit, but frankly, what I found blew me away. I noticed stuff when I first took delivery of the axle. The u-joints particularly. It looked like they were covered with grease like that to protect in shipping. I must admit I really didn't do that good of an inspection, and that falls on me.

I want everyone to know that I do not shift blame for this situation entirely on the seller. I'm responsible too! I made mistakes, in not being patient, apparently not asking for enough information with the seller and here, and just being concerned with getting this project done. Like I said, I made a

I was given some very good advice by a highly respected member of this board. He told me to slow down, take a deep breath, write out everything I need to buy, weigh out the options and hit it again. Above all, HAVE FUN!

That's what I'm going to do! Go back, and have fun again!
