Manual to power tailgate

Hi i have a question i am looking for a new tailgate for my 90 blazer. I found a manual tailgate. Can it be converted to power tailgate. Or if anybody can let me know where i can find a power tailgate in decent shape. Thanks

My opinion here only but I’d stick with the manual regulator. I swapped my power regulator out for a manual on my ‘91. The electric side of the equation is finicky and nothing sucks worse than having to unload the cargo area from the front doors because the back window won’t roll down.

if everything works it’s great with power. But there are some parts you can’t get anymore if you need one of the switches inside the gate. If your power gate works good, you should be able to swap the stuff over. If it was problematic all the more reason to go manual.

The manual setup with a well lubricated regulator and slides will roll up and down with little tension on the crank.

i avoided owning a blazer for years, and ran toyotas because i didnt want to deal with 700r4/4l60 problems, and didnt want gm tailgate issues.


then i found a manual trans blazer with manual windows!

i would rather get out and crank the window down, than have an electric one that feels like a timebomb waiting to go off.
