I just purchased a 85 k30 dually with the 6.2, 4 speed, round bolt pattern 205 combo. Knowing nothing about 6.2's or there bell housings I would like to know if I can swap in the NV4500 I have?

I have a bell housing from a 6.5 but the slave cylinder is on the opposite side from the 6.2. Bellow the starter.

Basically I'd like to know if I can pull the 4 speed out and stick the 5 in its place, or do I have to change everything?

Not an impossible swap, but you're gonna run into some issues. First is the bell you have for the NV4500, the slave will end up directly above the front driveshaft...potential to be in harms way unless you're running some lift. Advance Adaptors makes a bell for the NV4500 that puts the slave on the driver's side. I paid $400 or so when I bought mine.

The 205 may need nothing more than a spacer, I think the amount the output sticks out is the only issue there. Going from memory on that.

The biggest issue I see is this is gonna be a tow rig? No dig at the 6.2, I've had a few myself, but it's about the last engine I'd consider for towing anything more than a big utility trailer (empty).

You can also bolt the NV4500 up to the SM465 bellhousing with 3 bolts. Then, tap a new 4th hole.

The truck has a leveling kit on it but I definitely see your point.
$400 or more is kinda out of the question for a motor I don't plan on keeping for more than a year or two especially if it isn't good for towing more than a utility trailer, the truck will regularly see 5 to 6000lb loads. Thanks for the info, guess I'll just save the 4500 for the next motor I come up with.

Yes, but search this site for details. I haven't done it myself. The 6.2L can handle those loads, but it will be slow.

Thanks, I will when I get closer to actually attempting the swap. I've been reading articles on how to squeeze every ounce of power I can out of the 6.2, from what I've found there isn't much, haha. Thanks again.

Do you have AC? The cheapest option for extra power is a turbo system off of a 6.5L diesel. But it doesn't fit with factory AC.
