Question 1. which would give more bang for buck rebuilt 350 with new cam, intake, ingnition, carb
all the aftermarket ones made for low end torque
or a 454 with the same things its for a k5 blazer that will have between 35-37" tires and 4.10-4.56 gearing with a sm465

Question 2. how wide is an eaton also how much do they weigh also would a 9.5" 14 bolt hold up to said tires and engines also how much does a 9.5 SF 14 bolt weigh

Question 3. how bag would my gas mileage get if I whent full time four wheel drive with a 203 instead of a 205

well, chris...there is no replacement for displacement as im sure you've heard before...so i say go with the 454 all the way, rebuilt as stated above....based on your tranny/gearing options...it sounds like this will be an offroad truck only, so your gonna wann go FF for sure, so plan on upgrading to 1ton running gear...even with just 35's or 37's you'll find the weak link fast with a big block and that low gearing(trans)
the 205 is one of the wheeling holy grails IMO so going to most any other case would be a mistake, especially if it's for the same truck in the first two questions.

oh yeah, 25bucks goes a long way on this site....

1. The stock 454 would prolly make more torque than teh modded 350...if my guess on a mild build is what you are doing.

2. 14bolt ff will laugh at those tires and gearing....no prob.

3. I don't see ANYONE on here converting to full time. Why? if you got a 203, you woudl prolly want to get a part time kit for it. But why get a 203 if you have a 205? the 205 is the mother of all tcases around here. its a strong beast.

would the eaton hold up to the engine tires plus it will be a daily driver I dont really drive far to work like 3 miles so its not a big deal about gas miliage I was just wondering also the 203 seems to me to be a good case if you get the one with the 2.50" chain but I do agree on the 205 which is what I will probably get
Im trying to figure out how I whant to build the k5 my first plan was this
built 350 sm465 np203 Dodge front 9.25 retubed and a full flaoting 9.5" 14 bolt I know I would have to make it a full float
the second plan is this 454 sm465 np205 from a ford and a eatong front I know I would have to make it and an eaton rear both would have the ho72 third members with detroits

dhcomp, a 9.5 14bolt is a SF, not a FF...10.5inch ring
gear is FF....no bueno.

I always forget the ring gear sizes, guess its good i said 14FF specifically :doah:

yeah man...205 hands down...and go 14ff in the rear, and never look back...you may get away with a stock8lug front(3/4ton) dana44 or 10bolt, whatever you have...but that's with a 350, and a very very mild one...and a very very light amount of "go pedal" haha...good luck with the build.
