I am currently working on the brakes on my burb and got a master cylinder from a 88 1 ton 4x4 crew cab. Being my burb is an 88 3/4 ton. Well I installed it and all just had to swap lines from front to back and noticed that where it bolts up to the booster the back part of the 1 ton master cylinder is a bit smaller than the 3/4 ton. Does it make a differance does it have to seal tight between the master cyl. and the booster. Oh almost forgot I changed to a 1 ton master cyl. because I installed a d60 front and a 14 bolt rear with disc.

Is there a gasket? I can't remember for sure since I haven't done any brake work in a long while, but I'm pretty sure it only needs to chill there. Preferably with all four bolts so that it doesn't fall off though. You have to take vibration into account...

The master cylinder only take two bolts that hold it onto the booster and no gasket. It sits flush against the booster just has a gap on top and bottom part. I bled the brakes and they seem to hold feel good just wondering if it has to seal all around the booster hole where the back of master cylinder sits.

Well, it is entirely possible you got a master cylinder designed for hydroboost instead of vacuum boost, and I know from personal experience that doing so WILL kill your master. If you have a vacuum booster, you need a master designed for such; if you have hydroboost, you need a master designed for that instead.

I would go back and get a master for your specific truck. If you really want to mess with things, you could get the one listed in this thread

but that's your call. Many people -- myself included -- have had good luck with stock application masters on disc/disc systems.

No, there isn't a gasket, and no, it need not seal ... BUT... if it is as I suspect a hydroboost master, it'll start leaking back there soon.

Carefull with that MC listed in that thread. If you read toward the end of it there can be clearance issues with your hood. On my 76 I used PN 101534 77 K30.
