Master cylinder question....

Will a similar year (84) 1 ton K5 master cylinder fit a 1/2 K5? Any differences? If so, what? Thanks!

Yep, Mine bolted right on. since I used the 1/2 ton Vacuum brake booster, I had to put a spacer in between the booster and the plunger on the MC. If you get the 1 ton booster, Its all a bolt on.

Please explain the spacer between the booster and master? What? 1/2 or 1/4 inch washers? A solid piece of metal? Thanks!

The 1 ton boosters (at least on my year), the rod that comes out of the front and into the MC sticks out like an inch or so. The 1/2 ton boosters are flush with the surface. I just used a rod that I cut down to an inch or so. I plan on getting the 1 ton booster eventually.

the question would be "why do that?"
is your current master to small?
or just a 'since i was changing it' type swap?
what bore size do you need?

It might be for an 84 but not for an 89. I had to lengthen the shaft that goes to the pedal. This was using a 1 ton MC and Booster from an 89 1 ton.

I am really tired here so forgive the stupid question...

89 still old body style in 1 tons?(I recall they are but that could be the difference)

So if you are correct, does this not solve the "why a 89 1 ton booster didnt fit the old style cab balzer" question?

by the way, Hello there.
I dont think we have spoken much or at all.
If you are out in the Chilliwack area and need a field repair look me up.

Thats a good point. The 1 ton and the 1 ton extra cab where newer style while the 4 door 1 ton was still the older. I wonder what booster he got?

I'm assuming I got the 89 1 ton from a 2dr. I let my dad order it through his company so who knows. I told him to just order the 1 ton booster/master from an 89.

I have a '75 half ton and would like to upgrade the booster/mastercyl combo to 1 ton.

Napa shows a one ton part #: NBB501023 for a K30 1 Ton 4WD - Pickup of that year

Will those components bolt up OK?

I guess I should make sure I replace the flexy rubber parts in my brake lines before I increase pressure.

Anything else I should worry about?

I'm concerned about blowing out other half ton parts in my brake system with a 1 ton master cyl/power booster. If no one has any words of wisdom today then I'll just get a 1/2 ton master cyl tonight and install that instead.

I wouldn't worry about upgrading master cylinders. IME, if your brakes aren't good then the blame is with something bad in the system. I have the stock 1/2 ton Blazer master cylinder and can lock up all four tires (42's) at any speed with relatively little effort.

Swapping from a 1/2 ton to a 1 ton master cylinder does require messing with pushrod lengths.
