Just a little note to say that the Matco guy visited our shop the other day. First time he has been here.

I must say that I was skeptical since I've never been on a Matco truck and im a fairly die hard Snap on guy. Boy was I pleasantly surprised.

This guys truck was packed with tools. You couldnt walk down the aisle without turning sideways. His stocked air tools blows away our Snap on guy. Hell, His whole trucks stock blows our snap on guys away.

I purchased a really nice cut-off die grinder, and an indexable, extendable pry bar. Both priced quite nicely. I didnt know that thier die grinders were reversable. That rocks.

Our Snap on guy is in trouble. I told him about the Matco guy stopping by and he wasnt thrilled to saw the least. But if he doesnt have it on his truck, how an I suppose to know about it.

Shock and awe goes a long way. I didnt even know that these tools were available until i saw them on the Maco truck.

The Matco guy even threw in a free hat. Good luck getting my Snap on guy to do that.

With the amount of money i spent on tools alone last year, The Matco guys gonna love me....lol

my Mac guy was like that.... tons of stuff.. always specials, new products.... heck, i bought a boroscope.... other brands, ATD, etc... could get a deal here and there.... my last snappie guy was a noobie, not so good......

sigh, no more tool trucks for me... :( i could call and get em coming in, but i'm trying to hold off... :wink1:

Didn't you know you can get a catalog from any of the tools guys and EVERY item they sell is in that catalog.

let alone Ebay hunting.... i was religious about it for about 3 years... i used to check out snappies new product page every month or so too.. not so much anymore...

MT1871R, great cut-off wheel! Just be careful when you change blades. There is a set screw in the top of the tool you have to remove before you remove the blade nut. I just make a point of pointing that out to guys since I had one guy break one off before.

Our other die-grinders are not reversible. No die-grinder attachments are meant to be spun backwards(think of roloc discs and carbide burrs), but we do have a reversible 5" sander too. I love the reversible cut-off wheel and sander for fab work.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. Hope he keeps it up for you! Always glad to hear of a happy Matco customer.

I try and keep my truck as stocked as I can afford to while keeping it as organized as I like. Having what a guy wants, when he wants it, is the number one rule of tool sales. I remember how crammed my truck was when I first started. I just got back from our convention and ordered a BOATLOAD of stuff. I will have to post a picture after I figure out how in the heck I am going to fit all this stuff on my truck, ha.

Unfortunatly this isnt true with the newest stuff they have.

Having it in my hand and looking at the quality, or lack of quality means alot to me. If i have him order somithing out of a catalog and then dont like it, whats he gonna do with that tool. If he has one on the truck and it doesnt sell, then he know its probably not a really good tool to stock on his truck.

I know i can look on their web site at thier newest tools, but it still not the same as holding it in my hand.

Our snappy guy isnt even stocking thier promo deals.

Thanks for the tip on the set screw. How was Cancun?

I hated it, ha. I am not a beach person and the hotel kind of sucked. Overall I was just not a fan at all. I have been in upstate NY snowmobiling since Thursday. And I have enjoyed this FAR more than Cancun. But the deals are best when I go to the show and got to see the new stuff (and order it) first.

our snap-on guy is good. but orders are taking 2-3 weeks for delivery and same for warrentys.

mac guy = suck ass. wont stop dont know why.

matco = we need a new guy on the block i would give them a try . :D

Thats generally a sign of dealer trouble. It means he may not be paying his bill on time so all his stuff is delayed until he does.

It could also mean that the day of the week when he orders and the day when he gets his deliveries fall just right that you get skipped a week. So he sees you on tuesday and gets his deliveries on wednesday. That means he saw you this tuesday but it won't be on his truck until next wednesday so when he sees you in 2 weeks he'll have it then.

ive got some matco hand tools, very underwhelming. My 18 piece deepwell 1/2" drive metrics keep snapping. as a matter of fact, i think i only have one left that isnt broke, and thats only because i havent used it.

the rest of them have been one time use tools.

and our local matco guy is a flake in the largest sense of the term. tried everything he could to keep from exchanging them, and once he agreed to, the sockets were always on order, week after week, until he stopped returning calls. im just going to scrap the damn things i guess.

IF you are just gonna scrap them, send them to me. I will gladly replace them for you. Obviously it will take a bit longer being as you'd have to ship cross country but I won't let that **** stand for you.

Are they chrome sockets you are using with an impact gun? Send me part numbers and if you can a picture or two. I never want someone unhappy with Matco tools and will gladly take care of a warranty concern for you.

Don't come to me if the guy denied your warranty for specific reasons but if you don't have a Matco guy hit me up.

Much more likely the first one rather than the second. I don't know how they do it on the "other-side"(as we say) but I order daily and receive shipments daily. Not once a week.

I have some Matco tools. I would put them right on par with MAC and Cornwell. I do prefer Snap On, but I have all four brands in my box. That being said, I no longer have a Matco dealer who comes to me, and have never had luck with a MAC dealer, so I buy a lot more from Cornwell and mostly from Snap On. Snap On just has a larger number of dealers who cover a larger area.

I prefer certain tools in certain brands, but alot of which truck I spend the most money on has to do with the guys personality. My Cornwell dealer has been the coolest guy to deal with. When I lost my job back in January he hauled my box to my house for me and told me not to worry about my bill until I got settled somewhere into a new job. It was a month before I started anew job and he took my box there for me and even offered to loan me some money if I needed it. Cornwell may not be the best tools on the block, but that's where most of my money goes. I won't buy an impact wobble socket from anybody but Matco though.

Well our impact universals are just the best, haha.

I actually just updated the other post going right now with this exact statement. In my opinion, it is as much if not MORE so the man behind the tools and not just the tools. Even a ****ty tool can be great if the guy behind it is there for you, cool with you, and there to make your job easier.

I pride myself on doing right by my customers at every turn. It may not make me the most money(as I cover things that I may not get reimbursed for, give things away, etc etc) but I'd rather create a customer for life than make a killing off one sale.

I'd rather create a customer for life than make a killing off one sale.

If everyone thought this way things would be SOOO much nicer.

Why try to make ALL of your profit from one guy when you can make a little profit from everyone who buys from you. In the long run the person who sticks with you will increase your profits over a one time profit from the guy you screwed trying to make ALL of your profit from him.

I agree with the above statements completely. I dont mind someone making money off of me, that the way the world works. If i feel I'm getting screwed thats another story.

George (matco guy) is2 for 2 with me so far. Bought a mt1644k prep tool kit. Should come in very handy for the boat project im working on.

I also found out not to believe thier website toolbox prices. The have some really nice boxes too. The one with the integrated docking station is very slick.
