maximum backspacing?

I have a 1989 Jimmy, 4" lift and 33's. I want to get some new tires/wheels but alot that I want in the size/style are 4.5" backspacing.

Is 4.5" backspacing too much and would hit the tie rod ends?

What is the maximum I can run?

I had some with 4"....it rubbed the right front tie rod end, but cleared the left side....stock is 3 5/8", thinkin you may be able to push it to 3 7/8" on some vehicles.....4 1/2" will not work....I'd trial fit anything other than stock backspacing before purchase, or figure on using a spacer (which may require longer studs)

I ran 4.25 on my truck and had room to spare. That was on a stock D44 in a '78.

I'm running 4 3/4" 0n 15" wheels on my '71 dana 44 with no problems.
