Ok, while searching for a NV4500 I have found 2 complete and cheap trucks.
Both of witch are 8 lug 2500 4x4 reg cab long bed 6.5t NV4500.

One is a 92 pretty rough shape used and abused. It is claimed it still runs but rough and a real pain to start. A company truck that I'm sure nobody took care of. this truck has sat for at least a year but was started last month and drove onto a trailer and moved.

The other is a 93 and in a lot better shape, but the owner claims he was pulling a heavy load and over heated it and believes the head gaskets are blown a second time**. I know this truck has sat for the last 4 years.
(I have been keeping an eye on it)

Now both claim the odometer quit long before they where parked so I don't know mileage (seams a common problem on early c/k trucks) I'm willing to bet the 92 has a lot more and rougher miles.

Either truck is getting robbed of the trans and engine if I get them. First reaction is to buy the 93 because its in better condition. but the 92 does actually run although roughly (owner claimed it has a "miss").

Would I still be better off to get the 93 and hope it didn't get hot enough to crack the heads? Do the 6.5s also use TTY head bolts? Could it be possible that being the second time** they reused the head bolts and that caused the failure and overheat problem?

The 93 is a little more expensive but its STILL a good deal, I just wish I could buy both of them. I would rather rebuild the engine but if its a simple fix, like I think the 93 could be, on an otherwise sound engine, that would save a lot of time and money on my project.

So whats your opinion?

I'm beginning to think that the 6.5 trucks with manual trannys were more susceptible to cracked blocks. I've parted two '93's with manual trannys and purchased a block from a third '93, and they all had *some* cracking, the one I bought is extremely minor and I plan to locknstitch + girdle it and see how it does. This is significant because the '93 blocks (599 casting number) are supposed to be the most desireable.

Either ask for a written "no cracks or money back" guarantee on the block, or don't pay more than you feel the NV4500 is worth to you. 'Course, the turbo setup and other parts are also worth something, so it's a judgement call on parting value, but don't count on the actual 6.5 longblock being worth anything.

Just my wordy .05c ;)

The trucks are cheap enough to justify getting just for the trans and to part out so I will probably buy one of them. Max you got anything to add to this?

yea this is a bump

What kinda price are they? I'd be willing to drive down that way for a good deal on a NV4500 parts truck you pass on :D
