Just doin research, tryin to decide if im gonna rebuild my 6.2 or save up and find a junkyard/doner truck with a 599 6.5TD from a 1993 with the mechanical IP. Came across this article on the Optimizer 6500 which seems to have alot of good info on the known problem areas and weaknesses of early 6.2/6.5 engines.

The optimizer is a good step up from the regular 6.2/6.5...but the new AMG 6.5 is light years ahead of both. In the marine version it's avilable up to 400 hp.

oh and rene, there is actually a 700hp version out there in the marine world. its called the tigershark. Ill have to find the link when i get home its all blocked here at work. the company has several engines from 250p (baracuda) to the 700hp monster (tigershark). which uses a DB2 IP with twin rotors for twice the fuel delivery. The barracuda is NA, the other three(?) have a supercharger. and i think some have both a supercharger and turbos.
