A guy I know in town posted up some 1 tons on craigslist and I am thinking about buying them. He is asking $650 for the front and $500 for the rear. Both have 456 gearing and I do not have any other info (awaiting a return email). I was thinking about offering him $800-900 for the pair (the 14ff is overpriced at $500). This purchase money wise would most likely get me in some trouble with the wife, but nothing serious.

I currently am running stock 3/4 ton gear with 4.10s and 35's. I do not plan running much larger tires, if any. I do plan on swapping my th400 for a 5 speed and would want to go deeper gears then. My thoughts were to pick up a ff with the gears I want and change the gears on my 10bolt front. But now this.

What to do, what to do?????

A D60 would be overkill for 35's, not saying it's a bad thing to have too much axle though. If you can get it for a reasonable price ($650 is pretty good), I'd go for it. You could always sell it for more money if you don't use it.

A front D60 for 650.00 is a steal IF it is a SRW. My guess is that it is either a DRW D60 or someone doesn't know what they have and it is an external hub D44

$500 is a little overpricede, But, 4.56 aren't the most common gear in a 14b, and if it is an open carrier, can be worth a little $$.

Just got off the phone. The guy selling it turns out to be a buddy of mine. It is a stock swr dana 60. It has sat for 4+ years, but was pulled in running condition. It has warn hubs. He has had 10 emails of interest after posting the add yesterday, but I have first dibs. Now I just have to convince my wife.

If it is in good condition, what kind of money am I looking at to get it into my truck. New ubolts and seals. Will i need a new drive shaft? What else??

If the seals aren't leaking then slap it in with some new U-bolts and you're done. Your brake lines may work depending on what year the D60 is and what year your rig is. All front u-joints are the same from the factory.

I have the preliminary "if you can find the money, I wont be overly pissed and may still have sex with you" indication from my wife.

I will be going to look at this tomorrow. What do I look for? I have no clue.

First thing is confirm that it is a D60. Look for four bolts holding the steering arm on and kingpins instead of ball joints. Try to get the spring plates too, they are differn't than D44/10B. It'd be nice if the calipers were still on it, but I usually don't keep them with the axle (I'm assuming others don't either). Other than that, everything else can be readily found.

After some thought, I decided to pass on the 60. Even though it would be a deal, my financial future is expected to be better than my financial now. I could use the money better on my engine. Kinda a bummer though, but a wise choice for the time.
