Today I got the parts required to begin modifying the early figure 8 205 to hook up to the 4L80E. After a little digging, I decided not to buy the conversion kit as a whole. I already had the seal kit, and after a couple phone calls, I was able to purchase a new short 32 spline input and bearing for $115. Then I purchased the Advanced Adapters casting buy itself for $300. Complete seal kit was $25 locally so right now I am up $175 over AA's kit cost and $300 over ORD's kit. As soon as my machinist buddy gets home in a couple days, I will get the transfer case machined and start assembly.

Started woring on the 205. here is the before machining, during machining, after machining, and after I have installed the front drive gears. Hopefully by the weekend I can finish the rear drive and get started on the 4L80E.

Nice paint job on the case:D

Post up more info on the what, why, and how of this build please.

Keep it up:waytogo:

Way to go Mike.

Have you thought about using the long input on the 205? This should give you enough spline engagement to use a standard 4l80e 4x4 trans without having to worry about its output shaft (I think).

I am still working on finding you a shifter. Hopefully this week.

what: mating a 2wd 4L80E to a 205

why: bullet proof tranny for my '69 K5 with 400hp LT1 and 33" tires

how: Pics and text above

Yes and i don;t want this monster any longer than it already is. I would prefer the transfer case shifter in the front seat not the rear. :haha: This setup is already near 4" longer than the TH350 that came out of it and I am plotting as to how far foward I can move the engine without interference.

if converting a 2x4 tranny 4l80 to 4x4 you must change the oil feed plug out to a solid one . this is at the 3*clock position in the back of the tranny were the adaptor bolts on.

205 is 95% done. Just need to bolt the adapter on and double check my torque settings. On to the other half the project now, the tranny. Since it was disassembled to install the new output shaft, we are rebuilding it as well. I felt lucky when I scored a new take out output shaft for $75 and a local transmission parts house.

Looking good. What are you going to control the trans with or are you going manual valve body?
TCI Controller. I was going to use a PCS Controller which has capablilties of reading to gear ratio outputs but won't work with the 205 and mechanical speedo. I would need a VSS signal off the transfer case to make it work so I will be saving a little bit of $$$ there.
