Hi guys and gals,

I am thinking of working on a project that 'could' make my yearly firewood treks much easier and a lot more fun, but I need some specific measurements. I am thinking of fabricating 2 bumpers. One to fit a very heavy winch and the other will be a off season bumper on the front of my 1989 gm v1500 suburban. The heavy pull bumper (hopefully I can get all of this figured out in the next couple of months) will mount to the front end of the truck thru a (for lack of a better word) quickcoupler system or method somewhat like a snow plow or front end reciever hitch. I am designing outriggers in the heavy pull bumper to support the weight of the load from loading up (and collapsing!) the front end components. Also will use the outriggers and a third temporary 'kickstand' for storage. Similar to how a back hoe is added or removed from a compact tractor. This winch is designed and has been in use for over 40 years pulling 45000 lbs in a quad line arrangment!

I am in need of
-the outside dimensions of the frame to outside of the frame
-thickness of frame rails
-height of frame rails
-how far back are the front spring perches from the very front of the frame rail

I am asking this since I am using this truck as a daily driver. I have two other 4x4's, one is my wife's dd, the other is the work truck for the tree farm and is currently at the tree farm parked for a while, or until the temperatures get around the 80's during the day (mid 90 degree temps 80% humidity here in Indiana for at least the next month or so). I work very close to a lot of king **** cops and I don't really need to shoot one of them because they want to get lippy since I'm missing a front bumper!

All input is welcome!
Thanks,

Bob

Idk how stuck up the PD is down there, but the only lip I got from them up here was not having a front license plate, got pulled over...TWICE!:doah:

The front end of your burb should be identical to the front end of blazers and pickups (only difference being anything past the A pillar) within that year and later years. I wrote up all the measurements for my bumper however these large measurements may deviate about a 1/4" max but at least gets you within the ball park, and I strongly recommended that you measure it yourself because each vehicle may look the same on paper but from use/and age every vehicle is "unique", hence why I built my bumper on my truck...

28" from end to end of the frame rails

5 1/2" tall x 2 3/8" wide x 1/8" thick C channel (note 2 3/8" measurement is the inside landing of the C channel and doesn't compensate for the corner radius' or wall thickness)

4" from the bottom edge of the frame to the front spring hanger and 6" from the top of the frame to the spring hanger/body mount

about a 65 degree angle from the top to bottom of the front end of the frame

Hell I can even give you the body panel and grill measurements, hope this helps! :D

Thanks. Planned on meeting with a guy tomorrow to start figuring hydraulic stuff needed that I don't have yet. I am in process to measure my truck now
The new cops are the problem, but they are station just next door. There is always one of them staring at our trucks with the 'little pee pee' syndrome. They compensate with the king cop ego! Thanks again

:haha:Nice! hope they don't give you too much chit! Interesting bumper ideas, when you get them all put together post pics, I want to see that hydraulic mayhem in action :thumb:

I would but I have a thread started in the 'suburban' area, I would add a link but I'm doing this right now with my blackberry. Check it out!
