I just bought a factory spare tire holder for my truck and I need some pics and exact measurements for how it bolts in. My truck doesn't have the original bed or rear wheelwells so I don't have the factory holes for it. That's why I need measurements to know where to drill the holes. Thanks

Is the bed area different, or just replaced?

If similar to stock, you should be able to bolt the upper brace (that uses one of the topper to bed rail bolts) in loosely, and the mount should only fit in one location.

FWIW, if you want to use it with larger tires, you may need to "space" the feet (I welded washers to the mount) so that the mount sits more rearward and will clear the seat. My spare 33" tire BARELY fits between the tailgate and seat back. As it is the slop in the seat folding mechanism is taken up by the tire.

My bed area is stock, it's just been replaced because of rust I geuss. It was done by the PO. My spare is a 31 so I don't think I'll have to space the feet. Do you have a picture you can post so I can see roughly how it mounts?

I don't right now, sorry. The front lower leg bolts to roughly the center of the back slope of the passenger side wheelweel (the area of the wheelwell facing you in this pic http://offroaddesign.com/interior2.JPG ). The bottom leg almost certainly bolts to one of the recessed portions of the ribbed floor. I don't believe the upper support bracket will reach any of the other rail bolt holes except the correct one.

If the bed/wheelwell is not set up for the mount, and it were my truck, there is no question that I would reinforce the floor mounts. Even with the reinforced bolt locations the tire mount moves a bit, you'd be asking for trouble if the mount is allowed to flex more than stock. Annoying rattles, squeaks as the tire moves around, and likely loosening of the "nut" that clamps the tire to the mount. IIRC the reinforcements are pretty much the same as those used for the seat belt bolts.

Yes, I try to overbuild everything, but those beds are not real sturdy if you aren't very near one of the crossbraces, and those tire mounts seem to be fairly difficult to make sure the tire stays tight. I don't have carpet, that might be part of my issues in the past. I have no problems now, but I make sure the tire is square against the mount and that the "nut" is snugged up very good.

You might try searching google images. I just tried "K5 interior tire" but for some reason I was having a problem with my browser and could view only 10 of the pictures of the thousands that came up.

My truck is pretty empty, I'll see if I can't get one tonight, but it will be pretty poor. My camera sucks, and the tire is already mounted.

Dude, your awesome. That's exactly what I was hoping for! Thank you so much. I love ck5

Hey, no prob, I'm glad to help. With the collective knowledge here, I won't be able to help often. hahaha. But I'll try to contribute when I can.
