I’m measuring for pushrods on my 454 build. The way I did it was got the adjustable pushrod tools, adjusted them to a certain length, marked the top of the valves with a sharpie, put the rockers on, then rolled the engine over a few times. Took the rockers off and looked to see where the marks were on the tops of the valves.
I got them adjusted so that the rockers remove the sharpie right in the center of the valve.
Does that sound about right??

Yep, that’s what you want.
Also make sure you have no rocker arm to spring contact, and rocker tip is centered side to side.
