I have heard a rumor about mechanical fuel pumps failing soon after being installed because the membrane inside the pump has dried out due to sitting on the shelf for so long. The reason for this is supposedly due to lack of demand. The pumps sit on the shelves for such a long time that they dry out and fail prematurely after being installed. Does anybody know if there is any truth to this? If so, where can you go to get a "fresh" fuel pump?
