Ready to swap my 208 and do the SYE thing, looking for 241 to fit K5. I've been told my options are 1989 NP241 from K5 or Sub.

You are correct that your ONLY option is a 1989 NP241 as that is the ONLY year for mechanical speedo.

I tried this junk yard search engine and it seems to good to be true:

http://www.partshotlines.com/component/phl/search/share/zip:85749/year:1989/make:CHEVROLET/model:89/parts:{"412":["161B"]}

NP241 from the east cost around $150 shipped. A bunch of them. I wonder if I'm missing something. It would cost me $75 in gas to drive up to Phoenix for one...

You just need to make sure it is from a SQUARE body and not the new body style.

87-91 square body are the r/v body style NOT c/k when you search online computer parts stuff.

this might help a lot.

and call and ask them to put hands on it.

I recently ran in to a problem . all junk yard interchange programs show s-10 torsion bars are 1 part # . but gm shows 6 different sets and zr2 is all its own . this screwed me hard at work as I told the guy I needed zr2 but I got reg s10 and he had no way of getting me used specific zr2 bars.

so if you do get one of these make sure its exactly what you want and even have them e-mail pics or cell phone the pics so you can verify your self before shipping.
