Meet Clifford

1977 K20 Custom Deluxe
I really don't know Dave, the options list normally on the inside of the glove box was removed at some point. It had a step bumper, but I don't know who installed it or when. The only options I know it came with are the 350, Automatic trans, AM radio and that's about it. It doesn't even have an interior light.

But it’s cool look’n now !

When I bought my 85 new, it seems like the rear bumper was an option?
I think I still have that sticker in my 85 GM service manual, I’ll have to check.

Back up until the very late 80’s it seems that all trucks weren’t required to be equipped with a rear bumper from the manufacturer ( somewhat like higher GVWR’d trucks are still to this day ) - that’s when the dealerships would sell/install those step bumpers with the city/state & dealerships name etched in them.

I feel like the optional rear bumper thing ended with the intro of the GMT400. I'd guess Clifford got a step bumper at the dealership on Day 2 like a lot of the more base trucks back in the day.

That makes sense.

I recall the Fords still coming with no rear bumper through to 1998 until the Super-Duty’s showed up and them ole Dodges did the same in 1994 - maybe the design teams decided that they all needed a rear bumper to complete the look when these next generation trucks debuted ?
