Guys I'm working on my '87 Burb 1500 and the left front wheel bearings are shot. I've removed the manual hub and all of the clips I'm down to the axle nut that wasn't even on the axle!!!!! Now the threaded flat that goes behind the nut with the ears comes out part way and stops....looks like the threads are boogered on the axle and chunks of something came out with the outer nut as well:eek1:

I can't see pictures posted on the site because of my membership lapse so can someone email me an exploded view of ALL parts that are supposed to be inside this spindle/hub?

I'm in a bind as I'm supposed to be driving to Utah for a job interview this weekend and I'm in a world of hurt....thanks for any help!:thumb:

ryoken is a stand up guy!! thanks for offering to pay my membership dues.......does anyone have a diagram of the internal parts? I'm thinking it's a spring that goes behind the manual locking hub......I've gotten most of the threaded flat washer to come off by hand but it stopped at the last couple of threads on the end of the axle. Looks like there was some grease and crap in the threads out to the end and it just needed me to use a screw driver in the cut outs to get it to turn. I was able to do it by hand without whacking it with a hammer but I don't want to persuade these last couple of threads. Is there a tool they make like a socket with ears that will fit into this flat washer that holds the bearing in place that will help me take this off?

it's been forever since i had one apart so I can't remember the specifics on that, so I can't help on that end....... someone here should have an answer shortly me thinks.. ;)

I found the torque and install info:

1) Tighten inner nut to 35 ft/lbs (for auto locking hubs) 50 ft/lbs (for manual locking hubs) while rotating hub

2) Back off adjusting nut 1/4 to 3/8 turn for automatic hubs or 1/8 to 1/4 turn for manual hubs

3) Install locking washer (make sure the pin from the inner nut aligns with a hole in the lock washer)

4) Install outer nut and tighten to 160 ft/lbs.

(Posted for future reference so I don't have to go back and forth)

I got the tool from Advance Auto Parts, 2 3/8" Spindle Nut Wrench, for $14.99 and it spun off so quickly with a ratchet wrench that I'm going to laugh about how much I stressed about this for years to come!!

I'm sure the chunks I pulled out is the spring that goes between the Lockout Hub and the spindle nuts!!!! Now, tomorrow I need to see if I can get one of these from a local parts store if I need to figure out how to get to a junkyard...:doah:

At least I will have the new bearings/races and everything cleaned up/installed waiting for the spring.....:thumb:

Anyone have a diagram of the complete Hub Assembly to show the spring that is missing now between the manual hubs and the spindle nuts????
