Membership *DONE*....Hub Assembly*DONE*

I have an 88-90 book that I can take a pic of and send you e-mail. Do you have solid axle or IFS. It may cross over so you can see what you may need.

Sent again let me know. I think I typed in your address wrong. Fat fingers verses little buttons on phone

thats the 70-79 book. I was hoping the axle and hub assembly would not have changed that much.

So my biggest question is going to be........can I run this without the spring if that is the only thing I'm missing so that I can get down to the parts store and/or junkyard?

I got the latest ones.......looks just like the one I posted which would mean I'm missing #13 and #14

So can I run this put back together without Parts #13 and #14 until I get down to the store?

Did the second set look more like what you have.

And I dont know the answer to your last question.

Can you post the pics I sent and maybe someone else has the wisdom. My opinion is if it is basically in the free position its just a spindle.

I wouldn't. Without the spring the parts are going to be kinda floating around in there. But, you do not need any of the hub parts to drive it as long as you are in 2wd.

As long as the wheel bearings are in place, it will run just fine. You could carefully stuff some paper towels in there being careful not to get them in the bearings, and drive it.

The best way, though it might be tricky, would be to put the plate with the screw holes for the cover in place with the lock ring.
Then you could carefully put the cover on with the screws. The tricky part would be making sure that you got one of the screws started without pushing the ring back into the hub.
Without all the innards, there is nothing holding it. Once you got one started, it could not go anywhere.

The center plastic piece in the cover would not be held in by the spring pressure either, but the O ring would probably hold it .

As long as you did not do a lot of driving, it should be fine
If you knew anyone who had the blank covers for the use with a chunk, you could just put one of those on.

Heck, you could duct tape a plastic bag over the hub to get you to the store and back.........

This is what I'm going to do to pick up the new hubs tomorrow........Have the new bearings packed/installed and need to do the torque sequence then put the brake caliper back on and then the wheel. I'm good to go.......

Spindle has some small scratches and gouges from the pressure spring coming apart....but I got lucky for the most part and none of the threads are messed up so all of the pieces were removed, hub was cleaned out and it's going back together smoothly!:thumb:

Cool, make sure that the splines the moving piece has to slide on to engage the hub are not burred.
The cam of the plastic center will push it one way, but you only have the spring to push it back.
So,if it can't slide freely, it will jam.

Also, don't put huge amounts of grease in there.
