Michelin Military Tires : Question for Military Personnel

Me too!

So why the interest in tall skinny tires?

The XMLs aren't skinny. Mine are 39" tall and around 13-14" wide. Work great on my 1 ton K5 - prolly weighs 5500 - 6000 lbs.

My brother has the skinny XLs on his 1 ton K10 - weighs 4800lbs and they work great in everything he's tried. Mud, dirt, sand, rock. They can also be siped and/or regrooved.

They're as tough or probably tougher than a Super Swamper, run very smooth on the highway and balance with little or no weight (try that with a swamper). You can usually find them for $150 or less per tire.

The only downsides is they're kinda heavy and they XMLs are hard to find.

Military guys : First, thanks for your service to our country!

Question: Do military personnel have any "ins" with getting surplus stuff? Discounts or first dibs or anything?
