Mid-build on the sliders... *NEED AN IDEA RE: POST #3*

Winching off a slider is probably not a good idea especially if they are only tied into the body cause you are putting a hell of alot of pressure on the body mounts that it wouldn't normally get. You take the chance or tweaking something pretty bad.

so these sliders aren't tied into the frame? they're just welded to the body, is that right? is that strong enough?

i thought about doing that on my truck but i thought it would just bend the body when i dropped it on a rock or jacked it with the hi-lift.

will it work?

what size tube (HSS) did you use?

x10 no way id be pulling off the body like that. :eek1:

Welding them to the body is strong enough if you weld them correctly & bracing them to the body in spots helps. It is common practice to weld them to the body. It will support the weight of the truck slamming down on them & also the force from lifting with a highlift.

Fixed it for ya.... Sheesh....Navy guys.... hahaha

So, Colby, where is this slider/mini-boatside write-up???

colby left at 7:30 am and should have left for flaggstaff/grand canyon around 9am, then if I recall correctly head for home thursday.

I feel for him with all the driving and no sleep..

he does not have power windows, even so he only lost 4 inches off the door inside. as for sliders..beefy enough with just mounted to the body, as for winching I say no, for use as a safty strap/ancore or so "not pulling" I see no issue.

just got into tonopah - i'll get more details and photos when i get home to portland. i arrive tomorrow, but i get in late, so you'll have to wait a couple days. i'm going to have these sliders tied into the frame, we just didn't have time. i suppose that will really help with body flex. :)

uh...colby

tied to the frame?

I hope you mean tied to the body mounts/support areas?

if you tie them to the frame I can almost assure you some cracks or future problems that will be related to it, you cant have 2 parts of the body tied to the frame and then have 8 more that have 25 year old rubber mounts.

hmmmm... ok. so what if i replace all the body mounts? can i tie it in to the frame then too, or do i still need to go to the body mounts?

I wouldn't even bother with the frame unless you are full on caged and tied . Mine is body only , and I have sat that thing on the sliders numerous times , once being dragged over a wicked notch .

Just tie the thing to the body good and forget about it until you get a full on cage .

AND BTW , there are some cool areas to tie it to the body for more support , see my ck5 gallery .

paul said it right.

alot of jeeps tie to the frame but that is not camparing apples to apples, they are two different beast in theis case, not to mention a few people I have seen do it have had problem with cracking and such from doing so, and your is daily drivin which would make it worse.

your was not a rust bucket, pauls, mine and plenty others have held up just fine and works well:D
