Mid life crisis

1989 GMC Jimmy
I haven't been following this but we have a '15 Silverado at work with that same engine. I did a complete water pump and housing on it the other day. It sucked since the alt/ac bracket goes over the whole thing and just gets in the way. That particular truck has almost 14,000 hrs on the engine . She uses a little oil.

I had to change the water pump and all of the accessories to make it fit in the frame. 14000hrs is a bunch. Wow

Getting to the end of the swap. I just have a few things to button up. The exhaust sounds awesome. I really like the gauge set from Dakota Digital. The digital read out is amazing, and there is a phone app to select your display. I will be selling my other set if anyone is interested.

I bought a couple of random pieces to make the intake. I got pretty lucky there. I will make a box and pull air from the fender. 20200402_193316.jpg 20200402_193255.jpg20200327_132647.jpg 20200331_145318.jpg

Ran it today and all I can say is WOW.

The springs from ORD are awesome ride is much softer. I do get a bunch of axle wrap though. Feels like I am going to wheelie on hard acceleration.

The truck has tons of power and the 4.7 to 1 first gear really makes things interesting. 35 inch tires and 3.73 grease are just fine for the 10 speed tranny. 3.42s might be ok. Cruise at 65 around 1400 rpms. I still need to tune the truck but this is very impressive. Loosing 300 pounds in front and adding 150 or more hp is amazing.Hell on wheels seemed like a fitting song for the first drive.20200403_183448.jpg 20200403_112146.jpg 20200403_171734.jpg

Wow after a few days of driving I am amazed. I own a duramax with around 500 rwhp. This truck is much more nimble and seems quicker. 0 to 60 from a random stop sign is 6.0 seconds and I still need to tune it. Changing to disk brakes in the rear was a huge help in the stopping department. The springs from ORD and Fox shocks are a huge improvement! I have a few things to button up like the pesky front seal on the transfer case, making new A C lines, and finish cleaning the wiring up but so far I am loving this. Thanks to all here for the advice given.20200408_080216.jpg
From yesterday morning lol

Hey @ogur, question for ya. Did you have to do anything special to get the 10L80 to shift correctly while in 4WD low range?

I'm doing some research for my swap and trying to understand how the ECM/TCM will know when you've shifted into 4 low so it can adjust the trans shift points. I assume that in the donor vehicle this is handled via communication between the transfer case control module and the ECM, but not sure how it will work when running a manual shift transfer case.

How are you liking the swap so far?

The Transmission will not know the difference between hi and low because the T case is manual. I believe now there is programing for the transmission but as far as I know this is the first squarebody 4x4 with a 10 speed. I will be doing 6 more of these swaps but using the factory T case from now on. I found a bunch of D44 high pinions from f250s.

everything works as it should. I have about 6k miles on it. The xover steering from ORD is great. The traction bars were a must with horsepower on this one. 0 to 60 is 5.8 seconds.

They are OBS headlights took almost 3 days to get them in.
