I dont drive my Blazer but a couple times a month, its not a DD, but took it out today to grab lunch and hot rodded a lil bit to get thru traffic, was making a long sweeping turn thru a light and jumped on the throttle and it really felt like it slipped for a couple seconds and then caught,,i couldnt be 100%, but im sure it is..

Truck has 155k and I honestly believe its original, only because I had a U joint go bad a couple years ago and it was the original (had to heat up to get it to come out)

1984 K5, 305cid, 700r, 4:10 gears. 155k on odo

Anything I can do, watch out for, check or ??????

Check the fluid level--it might have lost some and that can make it slip around corners...maybe from sitting some leaked out somewhere,or a cooler line has a pinhole in it..

Wont hurt to see if the TV cable is adjusted right too,in case it moved somehow..

I had water build up from condensation in my van after it sat a long time and it did that too--felt like it went into neutral going around a corner, then "catch" when I straightened it out..-once I had drove it enough to "boil" the water out ,it didn't seem to do it as often, then I noticed it was almost a quart low on the dipstick...never did it again after I dropped the pan and filled it with fresh Dextron II...valve body had surface rust on it though,I didn't like that..

My Ford Contour started slipping just before I sold it too,it would suddenly seem to go into neutral by itself while cruising along around 35 mph under light throttle or coasting....

I told the friend who bought it about it,he didn't seem to care, said "if it blows I'll just junk it"...so far,he's driven it 35 miles a day commuting to work without it doing it again...(If I kept it,it would have smoked the trans the next day most likely though...:surepal:...)..

I think that may have had water in the ATF too, because it sat in my garage a lot between uses for extended periods..

Ok..I know ive got a small leak from the shaft area of the shifter,,i tried to replace the seal but that didnt work out very well. so, ill check fluids

Also,,i only drove the truck a couple miles to the store and back so I know it didnt get up to temps.

Drove truck today,,did something odd, it didnt slip..but was out "hot rodding" it, just to see if something either breaks or fixes itself. But I was hammering on the truck and it held passing gear all the way up to 5000rpm..my poor lil 305cid didnt like that and basically fell on its face (first time ever ive ran it up that high). But the truck just wouldnt shift and held on.

So what could that be?

I plan to change the fluid and filter like recommended but had another question. How much fluid do I put back in?

I'd make sure the throttle valve cable is adjusted right ,that can fry a 700R4 fast if it isnt and cause all kinds of strange results..--if it refuses to upshift past first gear the govenor in the trans might need a new gear, or maybe its passages & valve is clogging up with crud..

I dont know the exact amount a 700R4 takes for fluid after a filter change,I would say 3-4 quarts ,maybe more, some had deeper pans than others..
I'd dump 2 quarts in,start it up,shift it through all the ranges, then leave it idling in park and check it,and add only what more it needs till its not quite up to the "full" mark--the fluid expands after it gets warm,so you dont want it overfilled...I leave about 1/4" below full, then drive it awhile and check it again, top it off if need be.

******************************UPDATE*******************************

Well think I found the problem,,operator error. :doah:, I forgot to check the fluid when it was warmed up and idling. I did it today and sure as sh!t, it was low, like off the stick low. DOH!!!!, so I dumped 2 quarts in, and now up to the HOT level on the stick. I also re-adjusted the TV cable per these instructions..

http://home.windstream.net/mcfly/tv_cable.htm

The one thing that it stated that I had never seen before was the initial adjustment being too high pressure, which could explain some of my hard shifts. so I adjusted the TV cable and then "backed it off" 2 clicks (lower the pressure). I drove the truck and it actually shifts pretty smooth now.

So, 5-10min of work may have cost me thousands. Ive still got a small leak coming from shifter shaft gasket, so ill have to contend with that sometime, but for now, all seems to be well.
