I'm looking at stock '82 K5 with a 6.2L diesel and a 700r4. What kind of milage can I expect out of it? Street, freeway?

better than gas!..

My 82 K20 with a 6.2/TH400 will get about 20 mpg --on the higway I doubt it would do that well, its geared pretty low (4.10's) and is pretty heavy,65 mph is pushing it some,I'd guess it might get 15-16 mpg in that kind of driving..

I dont see the highway with it much, its mostly an "around town" truck..I use my C10 if I have to travel 50 miles or more, its much peppier, can cruise at 70+mph, and is not that hard on gas..rides better too..

I know of a few other 2wd trucks with 6.2's and 700R4 tranny's that the owners claim they get over 25 mpg,but I take their claims with a grain of salt..I did get 22 mpg out of mine once, but I think the wind was pushing me,and the trip was mostly downhill!..but it'll beat any gas motor as far as gas mileage, excepting maybe a V6..

TH400's suck the life and mileage out of 6.2's. With a 700r-4 I would not be surprised to see 18 or so in town and 21-24 on the highway.

yep. i drove a 6.2/th350 blazer to canada, and including about a total of 3 hours of idle time (border crossings!) and crummy traffic one way in seattle, averaged about 16 mpg at aboot 65 mph. ;) killer.
