mile marker hub install issues

I picked up some mile marker supremes for my 1984 1/2 ton suburban today and am having some issues getting one of them in. The passenger side hub dropped in as advertised and works great but the drivers side hub does not go in far enough to get the outer snap ring properly in place.
Per the instruction I have made sure the pin and locking tab on the inner spindle nut are correctly positioned and I have removed the passenger side again and compared the stack-ups on both sides and they are the same. I tried both hubs on that side and they both do not fit.

The hub bottoms out on the axle snap ring and if I remove the snap ring or loosen the bearings up and pull out on the rotor I can get it to fit, but obviously I don't want to run like this. Any one have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Use a prybar or a big screwdriver in between the ujoint to move the stub axle farther out to get the snap ring on.

I can get the snap ring on the axle.

The issue is the larger retaining ring that holds the locking hub in the rotor. The hub does not go in far enought to get it on.

So after standing out there for a couple hours last night and trying everything under the sun including some "beer engineering" I have decided that I have 2 options.

I need to move the rotor out on the spindle by about .050". I could do this by putting in a shim to space out the inner bearing........

or

I need to machine .050" off the end of the spindle to allow the hub to sit in a little farther.

What to do....what to do......?

are you sure you have the correct spindle nuts on... i know that the versions that had auto hubs OE had a different set of spindle nuts and when installing new manual hubs you must change the nuts...

Did you make sure to get the wheel bearing lock washer with the holes in it properly seated against the inner nut with the small tit on it? That would keep the outer nut from seating all the way down by about .05".

Thanks for all the good input. With these milemarkers the instructions say you can use the original locknuts. I checked the stack up and orientation several times. The hub is designed to rest on the axle snap ring right at the spindle.

After some more carefull measuring I figure out that I needed .030" more depth so I removes the spindle from the knuckle and machined .030" off the end of the spindle, stuck it all back togather and it all works great.

There seemed to be a little bit of an extra snout on the spindle that was keeping it from going in all the way.

Problem solved, thanks for all the help!
