I'm doing a whole bunch of front end work to my '85 K10 and upon reassembly I noticed one of my old Mile Marker Supreme hubs was broken. So I went out and bought a brand new set of the same lock outs. I put them in and once fully bolted they can wiggle out about an 1/8". Why are they doing that and what should I do about it?

Means the locking mechanism inside is scooting back and forth a bit. I've not used the MM's, only Warns, but I recall there being two snap rings.

One's a big (about the diameter of the hub mechanism) round ring that you pry out with a pick, goes inside the hub lip. The other is a traditional snap ring and depending on your stub shaft, should fit into a slot near the outer end.

You might pop one of the covers off and take a picture, from which we can point at things and say "look here" :D

I suppose it could just be that the stub shaft is moving, either due to shot U-joint or something loose inside the pumpkin?

Everything on the front end is new. Nothing is worn or missing. I used the new snap rings on the shaft and hub. O ring is in place. Not really sure what to do.

just noticed this on mine too and checked the snap ring is in place. I cant find a reason for the play.
going to ask mile marker in email about it but im not holding my breath that they will answer this month.

Think if cant resolve ill pony up the dough and get warn premium hubs

I have Warns, but I think they've always had a bit of play like that. The cap bolts to the inside portion, not the actual big steel hub, so it's OK for it to slide in the spline a bit, as long as the O-ring stays inside to maintain the seal. I don't know how much is acceptable, but I think as long as your snap rings are in place, they work and you have a seal, it's OK. I remember 2 snap rings as well. 1 giant one that goes into the ID of the big steel hub. The other is a "normal" snap ring that snaps onto the axleshaft.

Thanks for the replies.
I called Mile Marker today and explained what was going on. They said it's normal for some play but they did change to a smaller diameter retaining ring. That allows for the lock out to float more in the hub. He said they do offer a larger spiral retaining ring that will eliminate the play for a small price of course. I asked if I could just toss a second ring on them as the grove seemed big enough. He said that it could work if both rings are fully seated in the grove.
I gave it a shot and it worked! No more play!

I also asked about their lifetime warranty for my old broken set. They said no problem, just provide the original purchase receipt. Ya sure guy it was 10 years ago...

Warn has a similar policy.

Hypothetically speaking, you can buy a new set, then send the old ones back with a receipt from last month, and they won't blink an eye and just send you brand new ones. They just care that there's a receipt and a set of hubs.

I really should get around to selling this extra set of brand new Warn hubs I have hypothetically.

FWIW, I went out and checked mine this morning. The in/out movement is pretty small. What's more noticeable is they kind of rock side to side if you push on them.

Running into the same issue.. did you use 2 snap rings or 2 of the big rings?

I hade the old ones from warm and used them, if you don't it takes 2 to make em tight. Mile marker says the same

I used 2 of the large rings to remove the slack. I haven't had a problem since.

just a guess some of the new ones the rings wouldn't fit, or just to sell more parts
