Hey All, just took the truck for its first road trip. 1973 fullsize with 35 inch X- Terrains and used max AC the whole way from Fresno to La and back. Includes a steep grade over the Grapevine. I've got a TBI 5.7ltr motor from a 93 Yukon in it with Doug Thorley headers and no EGR, manual trans. My MPG was 12.5 on this trip. Hows that add up for you guys? I could probably do better with milder radial tires. Whats your setup and MPG?

'86 Burb, 350/700R4 10b/14bsf and 4.10's 31" tires.
I was averaging about 11 in town, I drove it down to San Dog in March and got almost 17. I was impressed.
Just put 4" Superlift and 35 Procomp AT's. Still on my first tank, but I am thinking about 12, that is mixed with town/hwy driving.

1996 K1500, 5.7 Votec/4L60E, 3.73 gears, 6" lift, 33" Mud Kings - 13.8 MPG

8-10 in town, but my right foot spends a lot of time getting close to the floor when the light turns green (or after I turn a corner, or whenever), so it generally winds up pretty tight before the 1-2 shift. I don't do enough highway miles to get a reliable mpg range on that kind of driving:dunno:

p.s. I also do most of my in-town miles down in D (not OD, 3rd rather than 4th), for the overrun braking.

Hey fellow fresnan! Nice to see some central valley action here on CK5 once in a while.

On my latest attempt heading from Fresno to Pismo I knocked down about 12mpg going from my door to Kettleman city before pulling the hills. sb350/th700r4/3.08's & 38.5" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, gotta love OD!

Once the tranny blew it got about 3-4mpg coming home. Not joking around. I glanced down heading down the road and noticed some distinct features on the side of the road and I had burned exactly 1/4 tank. Coming home after the tranny was slippin' and sputtering I took note when we crossed that same spot and it took me a little over 3/4 of a tank to do the same distance!

Anyways enough rambling.

'88 K-5, 350/700R4, Holley 670 TBI, free flowing exhaust, 4.10's 33" tires, and lots of chip tuning. I'm getting about 12 in town and almost 19 on the highway at a steady 60-63 mph. It's still a little lean, so I have a bit more tuning to do.

85/ chevy k-30 with hd turbo 400 6.2 diesel, 35x12.5r17 procomp xterains 4.56 gears, never worse than 12mpg "even hauling 3000lbs" never better than 15mpg

1974 leaded 350, th400, np203, 14b w/ 4.10 36"tsl 7.6mpg with front driveline installed all freeway miles. Farthest i ever drove it on one trip was 442 miles one way and it took 3 tanks.

Could it be because it's a bone stock 21 year old tranny?

Or maybe because it's a 700R4?

Possibly it was the 3.08's and 38.5" 16" wide Baja Claws?

Na' probably the 80 miles then up miles of 6% grade.

I don't know though. :doah:

74 K10 with 83 305 HO from a Firebird with true duel exhaust, 600cfm Holley carb, Weiand Action+ intake and SM465/208/4.10/35" BFG All Terrains. I do mostly town driving, and I have a very heavy right foot. I get average 9mpg. For one tank I went light on the go pedal and got about 10mpg.

my 84 350/400/208 3.08 10b's with MSD 6a, intake, and flowmaster exhaust gets about 10.7 mpg thats with my heavy ass right foot. Now the week that i played on the dirt road w/mud holes, every day i got about 8:rolleyes:

383, vortec heads, 670 holley, msd everything, big cam, headers, th400, np208, 38inch swampers, 5.13s.... I get like 6 gallons to the mile?!:doah: I seriously average 4-6 mpg never going over 50mph....

85 K10 Burb 350 350 3.42s 34.5s. 12-13 mpg. on a Twenty Nine Palms trip. 65-80 MPH, except through Riverside/Corona.:smirk:

3.08s are what killed it.

add a set of 4.88s to the mix, and it'd probably live a long happy life.

My plan as of now is to get a th400/205 combo w/ 5.13's. That combination w/ the tc in high and the tranny in 3rd gear would require 2910rpm's to maintain 65mph in a perfect world. Factor in friction on everything and I'm still in the little over 3,000 rpm range while doing 65 so I think that will be my perfect combo. Now to track down someone who wants to sell me a th400/205 combo....

Check it out...http://www.4lo.com/calc/gearratio.htm
