I have a leaking proportioning valve. I tried the local parts stores
but the military one is different. Can anyone tell me the difference
or why I couldn't just put a regular one on instead? I can't seem to
find one anywhere. I even tried boyce equipment.

We talking about a CUCV here?

Note that when getting parts for your CUCV, you should always identify it as a 1984, regardless of what year it was made ... for simplicity's sake they all use 1984 parts.

Took me like four trips to the parts house to get a new wiper motor for my M1009.

Your correct it is the cucv. The cucv valve seems to have some sort of check valve or safety valve dealing only with the rear and that's what's leaking. The valve from the parts stores don't have this feature. I'm not sure what it's actually for.

are you talking about the proportioning on the crossmember under the motor, or the block at the rear brake lines?

I checked out that site but couldn't find any specs on that proportioning valve. I don't see any reason why I couldn't use the normal proportioning valve but was curious as to why the cucv has that additional check valve.
