What do you guys think?

Think you should keep an eye open on craigslist or e-bay for a quality name brand lathe. You can't go wrong with a South Bend lathe and they show up alot even with tooling for a little more than that junk HF lathe.

Harbor Freight lathes are severely underpowered. At least the one I had was. The mills aren't too bad but don't expect highly accurate and fast cutting.

Unless its a 220V mill or lathe you will be very disappointed. Just my .02

This was really my kid buggin me and wanting input. I'm trying to get him to understand this stuff aint cheap, even the cheap stuff.
It's like a welder or compressor. We're good with the middle of the road home owner chit we have, nothing will see serious work so I'm trying to find something that will just meet our needs.

Honestly, I think the harbor freight one will be fine for you situation. Just make sure you buy the 2 year warranty or whatever it is they sell for it. Unless you plan on using your stuff on a weekly basis for the next 5 years you should be fine.
