My dad and I are looking for a new welder, and the first one that came to mind was one of these multi purpose ones. Does anyone have one of these or know anything about them? We want to just get one of the cheapest ones, nothing speacial. I'm also wondering how thick the mig and stuff can weld...i couldn't find anything on that.

Well, we want the tig and plasma cutter with the mig. My dad's company is paying for it so $6000 isn't bad. We we're thinking it would be more like 8 grand.

Well, that still won't get you a plasma cutting machine. It'll do air-arc which you might be confusing with Plasma cutting. Air-arc is completely different.

we run one of these at work.

You'll need one of these as well:

And for a plasma I'd probably get one of these:

Don't forget a gun and cart and regulator/flowmeter...

Well screw that then, we can live without tig but plasma is a must have. GUess it'd be better jsut to buy a mig and a plasma. THanks for the help.

completly different, but very cool. i got to play w/ air carbon arc the other day. awesome for removing thick welds.

for 6 grand you could get a 300amp mig and a plasma that would cut thru 1" thick material.

Yeah, by the time we got our Miller outfitted with all the extra bits we were into it for just under $10K and we still don't have a plasma cutter...:doah:

Arc-air gouging is pretty handy, but you don't need a fancy machine for it. Any 300 amp stick machine will do the job, although bigger is certainly better when it comes to gouging.

I went down today and ordered a millermatic 251 with a spool gun for aluminum.

That is a nice unit, you'll be happy with that I'm sure! :waytogo:
